RE: Power Ratings Week 7

From last week, my #13 beat my #1, #14 beat #5, #9 and #12 hung tight with #3 and #4. #8 beat #2. #11 had a bye but just beat the #13 that now beat #1. Seems like just about everyone has to be below someone they beat or above someone they've lost to or maybe both. Who the hell am I supposed to put in last? So much for getting clearer and changing less week to week as the year goes on.
1. USA(+3)
2. JMU(-1)
3. Troy(+0)
4. ODU(+4)
5. App State(+1)
6. Coastal(-4)
7. Southern Miss(+0)
8. Texas State(+1)
9. GS(+4)
10. Louisiana(+4)
11. GSU(+0)
12. Marshall(-7)
13. stAte(-3)
14. ULM(-2)
Really hard to place a lot of teams but a little easier when trying to think "who would I pick if they played tomorrow?" instead of going based on resume and previous head to head. I still trust USA, JMU, Troy despite close games and a loss to lower teams cause anyone can beat anyone here. Coastal however didn't just lose, they got smoked. Plus Coastal had other weeks that didn't exactly I still confidence. McCall is incredible, but sadly I don't think Coastal is.
I also leaned more towards teams that seem to be starting to click or showing more consistent improvement like ODU, Texas State, and Louisiana vs teams that you could argue higher but they've been inconsistent like GS, GSU, Marshall.
We beat your #10 team, should have beat your #6 team, and gave your #1 team a hell of a run for their money on their homecoming. Yet we are your #14 team? Sure, that makes sense. Of course, I will concede the fact playing a full game hasn't been our forte and, with the exception of JMU and USA, nobody else looks clearly better than anyone else in the conference.

I mean, I said how impossible this feels and "who the hell am I supposed to put in last?" Who are you gonna put last that you couldn't make a similar argument for? I guess maybe Marshall but it's hard to put a team that beat Notre Dame in last unless they're like 1-5 or just getting smoked every week. I just don't think I'd pick ULM over Marshall if they played next week. But there's no one I'd think is a lock to beat ULM either. Like you said, you just gave my #1 all they could handle.

You’re right about ranking. I’m not even going to try. Just curious. Who’d you have for calculus?

Just to clarify, that first part was really a lot of tongue-in-cheek on my part. As for the true rankings, most of the conference games are damn near a toss-up at this point. Yeah, there will be favorites for each game but I don't see any that could be a true upset if the favored team lost.

RE: Power Ratings Week 7
1. South Alabama (+1) - Probably have never ranked them #1 in my power ranking history
2. Coastal Carolina (-1) - Haven't looked like one all year but still a 6-1 team
3. Troy (+1) - Not exactly dominant today but still winning games
4. James Madison (-1) - Took much longer than anyone thought to lose their first FBS game
5. App State (-) - Bye
6. Georgia State (-) - Bye
7. Southern Miss (-) - Scraped out a home win today, but wasn't easy
8. Louisiana (+1) - Maybe back on track?
9. Marshall (-1) - Hot start has faded
10. Old Dominion (+1) - Big upset for ODU today
11. Georgia Southern (+1) - Big upset for GS today also
12. Texas State (-2) - Competitive, but still an L
13. Arkansas State (-)
14. ULM (-)

Parity is exciting, but the downside is outsiders might only see the records and just assume everyone sucks.

That's why the wins against major-conference teams (and ND) are so important.

All of the sudden the west has become a contender even without UL at the top.

Too much red below. That has to change, and it will.

12 yards of rushing in the entire game. 12. I don’t know where to put that stat in my brain.

GS averaging 38 points per game throwing 12 interceptions in 6 games not including fumbles. JMU whiffed.

I’m still keeping JMU at #1. One mistake-filled, one score road loss won’t change my mind. Fight me.

RE: Power Ratings Week 7
This is almost impossible to do given the parity shown in this league thus far. I don't think we have a clear winner projected for either division in the conference yet. Nevertheless, here's my stab at a power ranking. This conference is far deeper than many thought at first.
1. South Alabama
2. James Madison
3. Troy
4. App State
5. Old Dominion - HUGE crushing of Coastal moves them up
6. Coastal Carolina
7. Georgia State
8. Louisiana
9. Southern Miss
10. Georgia Southern
11. Marshall
12. Texas State
13. Arkansas State
14. ULM

Oh, I don't know about fighting you. I'm a little to close to 80 to do that. But it is interesting to note that not one of the teams the Dukes have beaten have a winning record. Cheers!

And 4 of them I believe would have a winning record if they had beat us.
And the one that did beat us would have a losing record if they lost to us.
Margins are thin.
