RE: Basketball OOC schedules
Troy's women's basketball has taken a major step forward in trying to make a big gain in the NET.

Their schedule is unbelievably tough.

BYU, Washington State, Arkansas, Mercer, and Belmont were in the NCAA Tourney.

UCLA, San Francisco, Tulane were in the WNIT.

I'm not thrilled with Troy men playing 3 non-D1 schools. One of the reasons was Troy was supposed to begin a home-and-home series with Southern Miss... so obviously there wasn't enough time to get another D1 team on the schedule.

Love our Hoops Program, but scheduling wise, our OOC has been trash . . .

. . . gotta a feeling this year will be more of the same.

preseason basketball coverage from AJC. Stan got some great quotes from Jonas Hayes. So this is what it's like to have an Atlanta native passionate to be at GSU.

“You’re talking about somebody who recognizes how unbelievably blessed I am to be in my city, where I was born and raised, a stone’s throw from where I’m sitting. Never in a million years did I think that I’d be the head man at Georgia State. It is not lost on me how blessed and fortunate I am.”

Yeah I hate seeing non D-I schools in general but 3 is disappointing.

We were usually SBC heavy with OOC so we are in a bit of a scramble to replace.

It’s horrible. We may beat UVa at JPJ but that’s the only redeeming thing I see about our OOC. Transition year problems? Shouldn’t affect our OOC though…

Mettlen did say we tried to schedule every single D1 team in VA so I'd imagine we tried lots of more attractive opponents elsewhere too. My guess is just that it's tough with the drag we'll have on SOS but last year kinda masked that issue because they went all out to open the AUBC with attractive opponents.

Hopefully we can win enough this year to start making scheduling easier. If not, I sure hope Bourne and co can work a lot more magic than they did this year.

Biggest scheduling success ever was when Lefty got Tark to agree to a H&H and UNLV came to the Convo. This was the year after Larry Johnson and those guys went to the NBA, but JR Rider was there. We damn near beat them too.

I heard we’re waiting to see who wins the intramural championship so we can schedule the runner-up.

He didn’t agree to come to the convo. It was originally scheduled to be played at the Capital Centre, and that is what Tark agreed to. But something happened with CC (I don’t exactly recall what - I think it was a scheduling conflict with the Ice Capades), and the game was moved to Convo. Tark was pissed and said he’d never come back after he saw the hostile and loud home crowd we had.
