We lost men's track and field and cross country to Title IX. I have no problems with Title IX, but track is a high-profile sport that a lot of football players double up in.

No men's lacrosse either.

Well, MLAX would be nice, but JMU has never sponsored it so it’s hard to miss what you’ve never had.

My father was a college track athlete, who also played FB, so I understand your point. JMU also lost Men’s swimming and diving, which had a long, long history of championships before it was cut.

Not sure what the point is in walking down memory lane about JMU sports never-offered, or cut due to the administration’s decision to fully invest in the maximum number of allowable scholarships in the remaining sports JMU does sponsor. Is it because you really do have a problem with Title IX?

Here’s to hoping Troy’s administration can find a way to sponsor MSOC. The more the merrier!

I was commiserating with the poster whom I quoted about sports not offered.

I ran cross country at JMU very briefly, and my son has crossed JMU off his list because they don't offer men's cross country or track and field. So that sucks.

Men's LAX and men's swimming and diving are sports we should offer as well, as a school with 20,000 students and growing. But I get the admin's rationale and our 60/40 female/male ratio. Their rationale isn't any fun, that's all. 03-weeping

(The ratio is GREAT for the current crop of males, however.) 04-cheers

I thought JMU had a chance when Kentucky went down to 10 players, but it didn't make a difference.

Is Kentucky the last remaining undefeated team in D1?

They lost to Oregon St in the P12 tournament last Thursday. UK is the only undefeated team in D1.

RE: Men's Soccer
Truth be told, this season basically ended up as a worst case scenario for the SBC soccer.

* WVU was preseason ranked #4, but went on to have an atrocious August and September, before finding their form in the back 2/3 of conference play and damaging a lot of our bubble teams' resume.
* Marshall's unexpected losses to ODU and JMU late in the year cost them a national seed (and might even have to be full time road warriors during the tournament).
* Georgia State got up to 48 in the RPI, but thats gonna put them as one of the first few teams out of the tournament.

Kentucky will be a top seed and get home field advantage to the college cup. Marshall's right on the edge of getting a home or road game in the first round. Only placing two in the national tournament is a worst case scenario for our league. Before the year, people were seeing this as a 4-bid league. But there is some hope...

1.) I really do think UK has a realistic shot to make the College Cup.

2.) One thing I did note as we went around the league this year is that most teams were relatively young. Kentucky will lose a lot this off-season, and Marshall has about half of their starters set to depart, but hopefully this was generally a "rebuild" year for most of the league and we can perform better OOC next season.

#1 seed Kentucky.

Marshall will be road warriors this year. Face Elon on 11/17

Kind of a bummer draw. Was hoping for at least one home match. The JMU upset really stings.
