RE: Not good
Let's see.. Do I leave a place I know I can win at that's close to my hometown and warm even in the winter to move to the middle of Nebraska where there's only two things to do: farm and drink with bitter winters.. I'll make a boatload of money but after that I probably will have to coach at a FCS school if I don't produce a good season in 3 years....

I think I'd stay put. That's me though.

He can make a guaranteed 15-20 mil in the first 3-4 years. Short of a Bobby Pitrino like scandal, even if he fails he can come back to any G5 team that has an opening. He sets his family up for life, so he would be a fool not to take the chance.

The rumors will be there every offseason until he finally leaves. It is just the way of things at our level.

Yep. Your program should not revolve around any one coach and his staff anyways. That's what all of our schools should be striving for. You want to be plug-in and play. The selection of the right coach that fits the school is the most important part. Some admins are better at that part than others.

That was my initial thought... though KJ Eagle made another counter-argument. Neil Brown at WVU came to mind. WVU only started him out at only like something around 2.7 mill in his first year there and I'm sure Troy would have been willing him to pay him $1.5 mill if he would have continued his winning ways for the next couple of decades. It's almost like why risk $2.7 mill for a 5-6 yr deal when Troy probably would have been able to pay him $30 mill + coaching inflation or so over his lifetime until retirement but these G5 coaches are kind of short sighted....they see big buyout clauses and additional comp at P5 and take the bait when careers can easily get train wrecked.

Brown got his contract extended after the covid season so that's all water under the bridge at this point. WVU is on the hook for big money now, not Nebraska type money, but huge money for the irate 8.

RE: Not good
I'm not saying this guy would be a sure fire great hire, but there is a fantastic coach that the App St guys are familiar with at South Carolina right now. Justin Stepp would be worth having a cup of coffee with. He's been focused on WR's but he knows the game. Maybe look at him for the OC position. I think he's ready and he is one hell of a recruiter. He sold Arkansas when there wasn't anything to sell.
