BFS expansion
Interesting comment from the Twitter discussion hosted by Jonathan and Michael last night.

According to Steve Brown, tearing down and rebuilding the APC will be part of any Godwin side rebuild.

That's interesting.
There's a huge benefit to the APC upgrade aside from all of the amenities within the APC.
Most likely it would mean they would build it so the APC could support a videoboard. I remember that being said was something they wish they had done the first time, so it would only make sense that APC 2.0 would be able to do it.
Plus, boards are getting lighter and lighter so it may not take as much adjustments to hold a board as it used to.

Very interesting-thanks for sharing. I had wondered if that building was built to handle a 33% increase in players and their needs, plus increased coaching staffs, scouting staffs, admin support etc.

Doing that would open up a bunch of different opportunities and flexibilty for the new side. The practical side of me wonders how we would justify replacing such a relatively new building ( currently 17 yrs old?).

Anyway, fun to imagine the possibilities for the future. Let's keep filling up BFS to create a need.

That would be my question as well. I would hope any re-work would include the possibility of putting some suites on top, and maybe putting any training-related space in the space under the Godwin side of the stadium.

BTW, weren't we settled that any Godwin side work wouldn't require any meaningful changes to Godwin itself?

Correct. We need to help educate folks about this too. The future of Godwin Hall means nothing for BFS expansion. It can stay or go.

RE: Campus construction and projects
Since the APC is still fairly young building wise I would think that any work world be an interior renovation and/or expansion of the existing structure. I can not believe that they would demo the whole building to the ground. But whatever is done it will be interesting!!

Have to read that tweet in context ... they were talking about expansion for APC ... which isn't technically needed to do the Godwin side rebuild.

However ... JB has said they want to expand the football offices and complex in the next 3 years, and that might take us down that path of an APC rebuild.

Didn’t they just totally re-do the weight room in there?

Yes, and there's a rumor something else is afoot instead.

JB's statements just make it clear to me something is coming. Whether thats APC, something with the IPF, or a new mystery is TBD.

This wasn't a tweet. It was from their discussion last night on twitter. Steve was clear that the APC gets redone when the Godwin side is torn down as the APC is too small for the current needs.

Yes, it is a newer building, but when you consider the cost involved to redo the Godwin side, it makes sense to address the APC as well at the same time.

There's lots of room in Godwin...

If APC goes....for the love of God...and even tho it's "fake old" ..can we get a classic bluestone style as a replacement? Troy's arches are great... give us that classic feel

Well if Steve's tweet about relocating and making the APC 8 stories tall with suites is even close to what's pending, then holy moly 04-jawdrop

RE: Campus construction and projects
Without weighing in on an APC 2.0, the trend seems to be upgrading the support centers for all sports across the school with football soon to be the most out of date.

Basketball - 2020 with the AUBC
Softball - 2022 Locker room and entrance reno along with stadium upgrade.
Soccer and Lax - 2022 on-site locker rooms at Sentara
Remaining Olympics - 2022 Convo Reno

Minus baseball, all other sports have newly renovated locker rooms and support centers. Other than the Moates Family weight room, the locker room is closing in on being 10 years old and the APC being 17 means that football is the most “out-of-date” by comparison.

Messaging from JB also suggests that football offices and support center are next up. The open question is what shape does that take. Steve seems to be suggesting its an APC replacement and endzone overhaul.

Whatever they do will probably be "big" for the program, support center wise, regardless of what happens with BFS and seating. APC/BFS is the most logical location for everything, outside of possibly Godwin or expansion/replacement of IPF.

If they redo APC, then they should do it with stadium expansion in mind that will allow for a complete bowl of the stadium.

Of course we have a ways to go for that...
