1. vs Morgan State - W
2. @ Nebraska - L
3. @ UAB - W
4. vs Ball State - W
5. @ Coastal Carolina - 50/50
6. @ Georgia State - W
7. vs James Madison - W
8. @ Old Dominion - W
9. vs South Alabama - W
10. @ Louisiana - 50/50
11. vs Marshall - 50/50
12. vs Appalachian State - 50/50

7-5 is my bar to feel good about Helton but I'd be ok with 6-6...just go bowling and that'll set a decent foundation.

I think most of us are about the same. Be consistent. Be good at fundamentals. Don't shoot ourselves in the foot or beat ourselves. Score consistently on offense. Rinse/repeat and build for a run next year.

Next year the expectations will get higher.

I don't see how we CAN"T see some improvements over last year... I mean no way we run through .. what was it 9 or 10 players at the QB position?

Exactly..

One of the things I've heard is Hall wants to take the pressure off the defense. Meaning he's working hard to get the offense to clicking. The Defense was on the field twice as long as any other squad.

Any game home is a W or 50-50, especially a conference game. That's perfectly realistic.

I expect the Jags to win 7 and lose 4 in regular season. Then win a bowl game. Barring injuries and unseen suspensions, I think it can happen.

So if we lose the 50/50 games you've mentioned then you'll consider that as confidence instilled for Helton's first year, 2-10?

My list is based on the OP's question regarding what will it take for me to feel confident with our first year HC and 6-6 is it. I don't think there's a SBC that we can't beat on any given Saturday...just a matter of whether or not the pieces gel sooner rather than later.

Ah I see, I just took it as a face value prediction. It makes more sense in the context of the thread.

RE: Expectations for your coach?
Its probably no secret Spav is the coach in the league with the hottest seat right now.

First expectation is you can't lose your FCS game again. If that were to happen Spav might be fired that week.
Also I think the offense has to look better on the field almost regardless of game results since Spav will be going on year 3 of running it himself. Hard to justify a HC if he takes responsibility of coordinating the offense and it fails to produce.

I'm not sure exactly what the required win total may be, and I'm sure how we look to get there matters, but 6 wins and a bowl game likely gets Spav extended. 5 wins and I'm not sure what we do. Hard to see an extension, but I could see him playing out the final year of his contract, but ideally you'd like to make a decision on his future prior to the final year of his contract. 3 or less wins and he's assuredly let go, 4 probably isn't enough either.

I'll say this though, I'm far more bought in to the idea of us finally turning it around this year than I've been at any point yet in Spav's tenure. The makeup of our roster and our depth finally seem to be at FBS levels. If our QB play is serviceable, Spav can put together an offensive game plan that works, and we have the necessary personnel on defense finally then this could be the year we finally turn the corner.

Expectations are for Michael Desormeaux to go 12-0.

Cuz I swear, as soon as we lose a game, there will be a segment of our fan base that says we hired the wrong guy.

(HINT: We didn't)

LOL. Yeah, every school has them.

But in the case of Coach Dez, there are people who can't believe the best qualified guy to be our head coach is from 20 miles down the road in New Iberia ("The Berry").

There's something to be said for an alumnus being head coach or being on your coaching staff. It becomes more personal.

Michael Desormeaux, pound for pound, was the toughest dude I've ever covered as a student-athlete. He'll bring that toughness into our locker room.

I'm excited for Huff, Marshall as a whole thinks that we have to hire "in family" (see basketball and previous FB)

And you proved my point. If you have the right guy,, there's nothing wrong with hiring an alumnus.

The two best programs in the Belt over the last four years are App and Louisiana. App hiring an alumnus has worked out for them. I think it will for the Cajuns as well.

Jones will be fine this year regardless, but to avoid fan base pressure, we're going to need to show improvement from last year. I don't think the fan base expects a bowl just yet mostly but showing progress to that end is important.

At the absolute bare minimum, Troy would need to be at least 5-7, with significant improvement in the stats department. Otherwise I'll 'd have huge concerns. Confident? I'd say probably 6-6 losing a few close games that are expected to be won in 2023. I'd want to be at least 9-3 in Sumrall's second year. Tall ask, but it's doable in the west when we won't draw APP and Marshall like we do this year.

I disagree. We have the talent. We had the talent with the C-name. He just couldn’t coach. HCJS doesn’t need to rebuild this team. All he has to do is put the pieces together to make it work. I say 7-5

They might keep him at 5 wins cause it is "progress" over four last year. But I think get 6 wins or it is time to try something else.

He should've been gone last year. An unusual combination of new AD hired at beginning of the year and new president who just started earlier this summer is probably what saved him. This year he should be fired the second it becomes mathematically impossible to get 6 or better wins.
