RE: Expectations for your coach?
6-6. Year two, I want to see improvement in the offense and the ability to move the ball effectively. I expect a lot out of Will Hall, but realistically this is year two. I just want to see improvements from last year.
Next year the expectations will get higher.

RE: Expectations for your coach?
I'll give you all my insight at to Coach Huff. I wasn't sure at first... And then our Admin's EMBARRASSING display of taking a Marshall jersey out of a FKN WALMART BAG and handing it to him... And then he spoke. By the time he was finished, I was ready to suit up myself and run through a burning brick wall for him. Saw the spring game...of course, it was extremely vanilla with some bright spots. The man had a lot of fires to extinguish and a lot to rebuild.
Then I met the man. I refereed his son in basketball on the weekends at the Y. His wife coached the girls team at my alma mater at St. Joseph. His son didn't understand why I had called a player control foul on him when the defender was moving..lol.. I was walking him back to his parents after the game because DJ wears his heart on his sleeve and they lost a close game. Coach immediately said, "It was the right call, Mr. Referee as did his wife (whether they agreed or not, who knows)." He told his son to suck it up because not everything is going to go his way. I dunno, I just liked the cut of his jib.
And, he's a helluva lot taller and bigger than he looks on TV.
He has his work cut out for him, but I think he will be up to the challenge. I think we are probably 2 years away from truly being able to win the SBC, but we shall see.

He's a good, natural speaker. I noticed that at media day. Has a future in broadcasting if he decides to hang up coaching some day.

With APP, is bare minimum SBC championship game, and hopefully, in the discussion for the G6 game. Sadly, unless some our young and inexperienced players really surprise us, especially on the defensive side, I think we probably fall short this yr to win the East, I believe it’s Marshall’s to lose.

Everyone else (other than Coastal I guess) what does your coach have to do to keep the temperature on his seat from going up?
Terry Bowden's seat is ice cold. Last year he took over a team that had the worst record in our school's history (0-12). He was expected to only win 2-3 games, but ended up pulling off a 4th win. He comes from a legacy family. Fans like him. We pay him peanuts.... He's got a long leash.

If Butch Jones gets Astate to 5 wins with a team of mostly underclassmen I'll be content with the improvement. If he gets 6 then I'm ecstatic.

We WANT him on that wall! We NEEED him on that wall! :) Yeah, I was impressed all the times I've heard him speak, embarrassed by the outgoing AD, and I think he truly is a man of class and character and have all the faith in the world..

The season would need to go completely off the rails for his seat to get warm at all. My biggest concern, if he surpasses expectations again, I could see him being hired by a P5.
As you know from my previous post on predictions, I do believe RR will exceed expectations this year, and I share your concern regarding P5 hiring. I see great things ahead for Coach Rahne, and I can only hope that a large number of them are with the Monarchs.
Cheers, all!

No question the defense will be phenomenal.
Question is if the offense can get caught up in time, and who the starting QB will be. If Peter Costelli is the starter, the offense becomes way more dynamic. Not many QB's have the speed of an NFL wide receiver like he does. I just don't know if he's a good passer or not.
Troy will go as far as the Oline will take them. It starts and stops there.

Yeah, I think Troy will be our biggest conf game this year. Might just be the deciding game for the west division. Glad it’s at Cajun Field.

I've returned this thread back to "expectations for your coach." Domination related discussion has been moved to smack. We've seen that argument over and over and over and over and over and over and it makes it NOT FUN for the other 12 fanbases to see it rehashed yet again.

With Hall doing the work he did in the offseason.. I'm hoping for at least 90% of our games to have a healthy QB in the backfield and we get more wins than last season.

Thank you. I should’ve never responded to his initial post, and will do my best to refrain from doing so the next time it happens.

I think Will Hall is a great offensive mind. I think we could have been much better here if Hudspeth had let Hall actually coach and call his offense. Hopefully he will do grat things for Southern Miss. Except when yall are playing the Cajuns, that is.

He's also said we won't have the players for that until at least year 3. I'd like 6 to 7 wins this year. Anything more is gravy. Even that won't be easy.
Right I was speaking in general terms not specifically expectations for this year. 6 wins would be great for Hall this year.

A lot of Jag fans think very highly of Will Hall. He has actually been on our radar as well. I think both Will Hall and Kane Wommack are rising stars.

I don't see how we CAN"T see some improvements over last year... I mean no way we run through .. what was it 9 or 10 players at the QB position?
