You get the beach (like the Myrtle Beach Bowl), a theme park (like the Cure Bowl), and some historic towns (Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown). It would bring a much-needed third bowl to the East division.
I was thinking the same thing. It's a perfect location for a Bowl or a good Basketball tourney.
I like this idea, maybe Gill is on top of it for bowl #7. We don't have the *biggest* stadium, but we sure are easier to get to than the Bahamas.
Only thing I can think of, we don't have a lot of hotels near campus. We are fairly removed from downtown, but I imagine sponsoring a shuttle service for the event would be relatively simple. ODU already runs one regularly for students and commuters.

I apologize. It's my fault. I shouldn't have commented on the Coastal fan's thoughts on New Orleans with my NO coworkers venting session from yesterday.
Should have known someone would take it down the political rabbit hole.

Always thought it would be a great bowl location. Part of the problem is the 7 cities that make up the region don't play well together. Conway has no problem calling their bowl the Mrytle Beach Bowl. Norfolk would choke if it was the VB bowl, and Va Beach would rather die than sponsor anything in Norfolk.

I always thought the Military Bowl would be good for Norfolk. We do have the World's Largest Naval Base down the street. The stadium size might be a little small now, but watching the bowls the last few years, it's really perfect.

Make a bowl first before you complain please. You just got here.
There'll still be more eyeballs on the Frisco Bowl than the FCS title game.
Also, pro tip in regards to bowl games: Prove that your fanbase can sell tickets/spend money in the host city, and you won't get picked last so most likely you won't get sent to Texas since they most likely will pick last as the newest bowl. That's what it's all about.
Condescending much?
Apparently you haven’t been following JMU or FCS NC media coverage closely since GS moved up to FBS.
Here’s a fact: JMU travels well…very well. GS should be so fortunate.

Accurate. I haven’t given a rats @$$ about the FCS or kept up with it at all like 85% of college football fans. I do know JMU has a fan base that fits right alongside the other fan bases in the Sun Belt.
It’s unlikely a bowl out in Texas would pick a team that far away unless they had to. If we added the Frisco bowl, it would be to cater to teams like Texas State, Arkansas State, and ULM that have watched their conference shift focus to the East over the last decade. I’m sure they’d appreciate the opportunity to keep a trip short.
Welcome to life as a small fish in a big pond. Your conference and all its decisions and directions no longer revolve around JMU.

It'll be interesting to see who's eyes get opened. We've all transitioned from FCS to FBS fairly successfully. You have not yet. I think you'll do well but not everyone does. ODU was good as FCS and they've struggled mightily in FBS. Might want to take in a season before you puff out too much. I agree, though. F Frisco
Yep. Our FCS coach couldn't handle it. I do think JMU will be surprised just how little people care about FCS, in the greater athletic environment. I suspect they will be more glad than they yet realize about making the jump, even if they don't do well. That was my experience

Honestly, I am already more glad than I ever thought I would be. I fully realize how little some people care about FCS. I've experienced it for decades. Even when we were an annual contender for the title it was hard to find people that actually knew about it.
JMU wasn't ready to move at the opportunity 10 years ago (to the irritation of myself and many many JMU fans), but we are now. I can only hope that the preparation as well as having the additional scholarships we had due to COVID will make this transition better, but only time will tell. The good thing is that we will soon find out if we are just blowing steam or actually a threat.

RE: What’s the 6th Bowl?
I'm hoping our FCS coach can handle it, we'll see. If we take a while to get up to speed his in game coaching will be why imo, and then we'll see whether his recruiting/development can make up for it or if he fails to ramp those up to FBS level and we have to move on. Regardless, I have no doubt we'll be competing for and winning conference championships, just a matter of how soon.
I do think JMU fans are a mix when it comes to realizing how little the rest of the world cares about FCS football. Some definitely get it, but others will gradually realize how big the difference is both with the average person and with recruits.
Edit: It's funny though to think that the CAA's decisions and directions ever revolved around JMU. Around taking advantage of JMU maybe. Definitely not around keeping JMU happy.

You go on ESPN and the only thing you can really find about an FCS school is that NDSU is running roughshod on the league as usual. Either that or they're playing an FBS team. Anything outside of a team moving up and it's hard to find anything of value. If NDSU left it'd be almost the NAIA with coverage.
