Question Future SBC baseball tournaments
Any indication where the tournament is headed after the deal in Montgomery ends in 2024?

Wouldn't mind seeing it rotate between 6-7 campus sites. Plenty of programs in the league that could host it.

There is the hometown curse when hosting the baseball tournament. Usually the home team makes an early exit and rarely makes the championship game. In the 20 years before we played in Montgomery, the home team has only won it twice:

2019 - Coastal hosted and went 5-1 and won the tournament
2018 - Louisiana hosted and went 1-2
2017 - Georgia Southern hosted; due to rain it went to a single elimination. GS went 2-1, but that loss was to South Alabama in 10 innings
2016 - Texas State hosted and went 1-2
2015 - Troy hosted and went 0-2
2014 - South Alabama hosted and went 0-2
2013 - Louisiana hosted and went 3-1, losing in the championship game
2012 - WKU hosted and went 0-2 in pool play before winning a meaningless game 3 against ULM that had already clinched a spot in the championship game
2011 - ULM hosted but didn't qualify for the tournament
2010 - Middle Tennessee hosted and went 1-2
2009 - Troy hosted and went 1-2
2008 - Louisiana hosted and went 2-2
2007 - South Alabama hosted and went 2-2
2006 - Western Kentucky hosted and went 0-2
2005 - FIU hosted and went 1-2
2004 - South Alabama hosted and went 1-2
2003 - Louisiana hosted and went 2-2
2002 - South Alabama hosted and went 3-1, losing in the championship game
2001 - Louisiana hosted but did not qualify for the tournament
2000 - South Alabama hosted and won the SBC championship

So if we go back to campus sites, tell South to NOT bid. I don't mind a neutral site rotation of Montgomery, Huntsville, and Pensacola type sites.

Coastal is undefeated when hosting the SBC tournament.

I’m ok if we host in Conway every year. 04-cheers

SBC is trying to get away from campus sites for most if not all championships, so I'd be surprised to see it go back. Just like everything else, you have to have somebody that wants it.

Just in case anyone was interested, because I was, the new geographic center of the conference is in Irondale, Alabama, which is basically in Birmingham. The center of the East division is Hendersonville, NC, which is just outside of Asheville. The center of the West is Peyton, MS, which is an hour from both Jackson and Natchez, sitting right in the middle.

It makes sense for football because there’s not an opportunity for the host to lose before the championship, but for basically everything else, a destination city at a location that’s easy to get to from all members and with things to do if you’re bounced early makes the most sense.

Biloxi did a good job with the CUSA tournament, but there have been some management issues there recently. It looks like Montgomery is a good place as well, but I'd really like to see a tournament in the Blue Wahoos stadium in Pensacola.

League really likes the idea of keeping it at a neutral site, so it likely switches between different minor league parks.

Pensacola would be a great place to have it. Sign me up for that

If we want a truly neutral location, I vote for my local minor league stadium in Ohio.

Reason?

I can go watch all the games.

Hard to say, we've only played there once, last season, and we were a 1 bid league last year because so many teams were down. This year will be an interesting test.

I don't expect we'll ever go back to home sites though. Gill seems to want all tournaments at neutral sites. Softball is the only thing left that still plays on campus.

It's a great looking stadium in Montgomery. Not a bad drive for many. We've been to much worse in CUSA (cough cough Ruston cough).

You don't like the Gulf? We have tons of beaches. There are even hotels and stuff like every other city.

I get it, other cities on the Gulf are ok but not here because it's Texas.

(just teasing)

We are the closest at 6.5 hours besides Texas State...half the league is within 7 hour drive of Pensacola. I love the gulf, I live on it but Pensacola would draw way more people for Memorial Day week/weekend
