State beat Memphis 14-8 last night. Always good to beat the tiggers.

It's the first midweek games we've had in almost a month. Our pitchers need the work. Last night we threw Christie, Bonds, Perrin and Theut. Bonds only threw about nine pitches.

Tommy Ray gets the start tonight. Our pitching will be fine for the weekend.

Good to know. This feels like TXSTs first midweek off in months.

RE: ...and DOWN THE STRETCH they come.....
So if I did my arithmetic right:

------------------Play Teams From Wild Card----------------------
1st Place:
Advantage: Texas State
Texas State needs one win to lock it up with Georgia State this weekend, so it's all but an arithmetic lock.

2nd Place:
Advantage: Georgia Southern
GS needs to win at least as many over UTA as Coastal does over South Alabama. Louisiana would need a wild scenario to get 2nd but isn't eliminated.

----------------First-Round Bye-----------------------------------

3rd Place:
Advantage: Coastal Carolina
Cajuns would need to sweep Little Rock and Coastal get swept by South for UL to take 3rd.

4th Place:
Advantage: Louisiana
UL holds the tie-breaker over South, so South would need to win 2 more games against Coastal than Louisiana does against Little Rock to get this spot.

5th Place:
Advantage: South Alabama
Georgia State needs 1 more win over Texas State than South Alabama gets over Coastal to take 5th.

6th Place:
Advantage: Troy
Troy needs 1 more win over App State than Georgia State does over Texas State to jump Georgia State

-----------------Teams with no First-Round Bye--------------------

7th Place:
Advantage: Georgia State
Little Rock would need to sweep UL and Troy get swept by App for Little Rock to jump Georgia State.

8th Place:
Advantage: Little Rock
No possible tie-breaker here because of Little Rock's cancelled game. App needs to win 2 more games against Troy than Little Rock wins against the Cajuns to jump Little Rock.

9th Place:
Advantage: App State
UTA would need to sweep GS and App get swept by Troy in order for UTA to jump App.

10th Place:
Advantage: ULM
ULM needs 1 more win over Ark State than UTA gets over GS to jump UTA and make the tournament.
Ark State must sweep ULM and GS must sweep UTA for Ark State to get in the tournament.

Ark State must sweep ULM and GS must sweep UTA for Ark State to get in the tournament.

Very Well Done.

I'm thinking the top four are TXST, GS, CCU and UL in that order. Can USA win in Conway. Can GSU get a game (or two) at home against Texas State? Can Troy win at App (not easy.)

5,6,7 are interesting. And, since 7 has to play on Tuesday, every game is crucial.

App will be in the tournament in my opinion. And, I agree ULM has the inside track to be the tenth team.

Bird, do you think someone outside the top 3 can win the tournament this year and give us a chance at 4 Regional bids?

I would say South, but they've had pitching staff injuries. The Cajuns if their pitching gels at the right time could perhaps. In fact, the scenario where the Cajuns sweep this weekend and get to Sunday in the tournament would give them a chance even if they don't win it, depending on the number of "stolen" bids in conference tournaments.

I'm trying to find the time to do my tournament preview before I leave for Montgomery. I'll break it down then. I do it for hoops, too, but baseball is easily my favorite sport.

All American pitcher Jeremy Lee got hurt last year and we had hoped he would be back this year, but after pitching 8.0 innings of relief over three games to start this season, he’s just not able to go and is out for the season. Since he wasn’t able to go, Miles Smith moved into the Friday night slot. Miles had an injury and since April 1 he has only pitched 4.2, 2.2, 0.2, and 0.1 innings in relief. Sam Knowlton was going to be our closer this year, but he hasn’t been able to play this season either. All that said, if we could get Miles Smith back for the tournament, it’d be a big shot in the arm.
