Miggy, I see so many problems with this post…

First, neither Emoni nor Mounir are committed to EMU. Emoni is at least talking to EMU. Mounir is not as far as anyone knows.

Second, how can you diminish Emoni’s value based on freshman stats, then say Mounir will better be able to have a positive impact. Have you seen Mounir’s freshman stats?

Third, if you base future ability/productivity on freshman stats, then Emoni is going to much better than Noah. I know Noah had a difficult Coach/situation at ECU, but as Steve says there was probably a difficult situation for Emoni at Memphis too.

In the end, I don’t think EMU gets Emoni here. But if he does come, it is likely his team. Though, he won’t be able to accomplish anything without Noah. Both will be good for each other.

Unofficial EMU is Recruiting Emoni Thread
The Emoni to EMU speculation is getting a lot of chatter amongst the locals. People are paying attention to it. If EMU gets Rocket and Emoni then there will be at least 5K people at the first home game.

I just hope that those close to Emoni let him make the decision for himself.

I agree with your assessment on this center. Do you know if he’s coming in for a visit? If Noah and Mounir teamed together with Jailin, we will make a lot of noise. Jailin provides much needed rebounding strength.

Disagree…..if Emoni comes to EMU the convocation would sell out his first game. I believe this would lead to a couple more highly rated transfers to join us and make the team a conference power. In that case, we average 6-8k for all home games. There are plenty of Emoni fans from neighboring communities that he would attract. It would be huge for EMU

Not disagreeing with you, I guess I'm just being a little conservative on the crowd size estimate. After all, this is EMU we're talking about.

Luckey tends to go a little over the top with his excitement.

Remember EMU is not in a major metro area where 1M people who are within a 15 - 20 mile drive. Lot of folks in Washtenaw County but they don't bleed green.

Folks don't drive 40 miles for a Tuesday night game esp, in bad weather.

RE: Unofficial EMU is Recruiting Emoni Thread
I think conservatively you could say the crowd size would double... Though that's not saying much. If the team proves it is a winner I think 5-6k would be a goal to shoot for during MAC play. Last year's game against FIU when they re-named the George Gervin GA Center had nearly 4,000 people... I could see that becoming the norm.

It does also matter who you play. Gone are the days of four non-D1 games every year, but if that first home game of 2022-23 is Northwood or someone of that ilk you'll see plenty of folks opt for another time. AND THEN if you get off to a poor start they'll think "typical EMU" and not think twice about going again.

Stan's team plays a much more exciting brand of basketball than Murphy's teams did, but you still have to win to put butts in the seats. Even Michigan didn't have a full house playing Michigan State this past season because both teams were down.

WITH THAT SAID! If you are a good team that has interest because of your student-athletes, you're getting the best time slots in all the televised MAC games, which makes it far more likely people will be able to come.

I am a skeptic by profession and my crystal ball has been foggy this basketball recruiting season but my gut instinct tells me Bates to EMU is likely to happen. Why? You get to move the mountain not be on the peak of the mountain watching the scenery.

I agree with you but NIL scares me. What if some school offers over 250K for Emoni to endorse EB (something).

In the past, schools bought recruits and risked the "wrath" of the NCAA. Today schools can buy recruits and we call it NIL.

Jerry will note I put 'wrath' in quotes. Like the wrath of a paper tiger.

Per Anthony Wright (pretty well connected) on Twitter and his Spotify Live just now, Emoni to Louisville is pretty much a done deal. Just a matter of when Emoni officially announces it.

Hope he’s wrong.

03-weeping

I did see a Tweet or something which mentioned L'vile so I would have guessed L'ville if not EMU.

This article mentioned L'ville and DePaul, but not UofM. https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2022/05...ce=twitter

I don’t think NIL is an issue in this matter. Going to give nods to a lot of different posters in my explanation:

Tru’ once pointed out: EMU has it much better than other mid-majors since they already have a GameAbove type organization. I know we assumed Batch’s $1 mill to QB Caleb was probably mostly buzz advertisement, but if Caleb took him up on it they likely would have had to pay. GameAbove knows what they are doing in general, and I am sure they are involved in these talks so far otherwise there wouldn’t be any.

As Luckey pointed out: the going rate for a star bb player will likely be an ROI on ticket sales in one season alone. GameAbove shelled out 2.4 million to change the convo name. They can easily shell out say 0.4k (speculative figure on my part) for this and it will have both a greater and a more immediate transformational effect on the university/program.

As ‘79 points out, we could get Emoni at a discount because there is more incentive for him to come here. (BTW, eloquently expressed about the mountain analogy, ‘79. Poetic). Plus, being the home town team, EMU creates as much buzz for Emoni as Emoni does for EMU. So we might get him for say 200k (speculative figure) and distribute out another 200k to lure other recruits and keeping existing players happy.

To be clear, my post/reply is PURELY HYPOTHETICAL AND SPECULATIVE only to demonstrate the point that NIL is not the limiting factor in EMU-EMoni relationship. Plus, I still think there is no way he comes to EMU.

I feel like a St. Peter's fan now. It was fun while it lasted, but realistically it was too good to be true.

Or the 2013 (?) Tigers. Rallied to make the post season but lost in the World Series.

Hmmmm - do you know why Ypsilanti- Lincoln moved Emonis high school game from their local gym to our GA arena? Why do you think?

I would think this is a turn off for Emoni. Whoever said UofM is not interested in Emoni, This article supports that argument.

Agree. Have no update on Mounir. Just glad Steve got the ball rolling by mentioning him as I had no idea he had the day before entered the transfer portal. I pointed out to Mounir why playing for EMU would be a good fit for him.
