But the latest “fan” article was pretty decent. This author clearly states he has no inside info, but thinks it’s down to 3 schools: coming home to EMU, returning to Memphis, or going to Louisville.

I think you have clarified what I was thinking about.

He can play in the G-League (based on age). He can not play in the NBA without being eligible ('subject to') for the NBA draft.

My question: What type of G-League contract is he eligible. Big bucks or pennies? Contract only with the Ignite?

My question(2): Do all of these players including those who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility announce for the NBA draft which makes them eligible for the G-League, and other professional leagues across the globe? Is it more of a formality than some silly "I averaged 7 ppg at Shippenburg State and I want to play in the NBA..."

And here is a positive about NIL rights. Players are able to make more than that in college making NIL money. That will keep players in college rather than sending them to the Ignite or Europe or New Zealand or whatever.
Again he could probably get more than that in Europe.

At one point in the offseason, the Cardinals looked like the pick for Bates. New head coach Kenny Payne adds a couple of pieces early on but has been quiet ever since and the roster literally only has one true guard (El Ellis) at the moment. They can add Bates and have him start at the two-spot and give him a big role in the offense.

Things have gotten even direr for Louisville this weekend with Kevin “Boopie” Miller electing to come back to Central Michigan and leaving the transfer portal. He was reportedly linked to Louisville had he left but now the ACC program is still without a true shooting guard on a roster. They absolutely can still add Bates in the next couple of weeks and if they don’t could be in some real trouble next season.

I agree with you. If I was asked to describe what I think is MOST likely:

Every day which passes suggests that he is waiting on the G-League and not picking a college. We are approaching the day (July 1 or August 1?) when he should show up on a college campus to begin classes and off season training, IF he will be a college athlete for '22/'23.

Think about it. If he does want to go G-League, what are his options? Come back home, and work out and simply wait for fall. He is no longer a Memphis student.
