RE: 2022-23 Season
checking in at halftime - good enough first half defensively, but a real slog offensively. my main fear of not having a go-to scored when needed seemed to be rearing its head when the offense sputtered that half. here’s to hoping for some adjustments and outscoring them by 13 in the second half

RE: 2022-23 Season
Nice scrimmage last night. Suder is the real deal, every thing is effortless. It will be interesting how he performs over the next two weeks. Thelen looks like he has lost a lot, too bad, he had a lot of promise. We should play a game at Knights Hall every year for the students if nothing else. As for recruiting, how many guards are we going to get? I guess you take the best you can get.

first game seeing Suder in person - well built for a freshman and as mentioned, just seemed at ease playing. No big takeaways given the competition, but agree it was great to get a game in Knights Hall, just such a better environment

RE: 2022-23 Season
I recognize a few names on here - thought I'd pop over and say congrats on the UL victory... and maybe stir the pot a bit like the good ol' days. I miss having rivals like you guys.
But anyhow, the trash talk.
USI currently ranked higher than BU in Kenpom after the first week of action (#200 and #231). Currently the highest in the OVC too. We beat Southern Illinois this weekend and we'll be playing Notre Dame tomorrow night.
I'm hoping we can one-up you all and win our conference championship in our first year instead of the 2nd year. (Can't believe it took you guys so long!) I kid, I kid. I know OVC is a bit easier of a conference. But seriously, NCAA needs to change their transition rules for schools moving up.
Hopefully next season we will see the rivalry renewed with a pair of games?

Oh, no -- not you again. Greetings!
Yes, one would think BU and USI will renew acquaintances sooner rather than later, although the Knights haven't taken on old chum NKU since moving up.

RE: 2022-23 Season
Yes, I would luv playing USI again... In fact they should get a round robin going between all former GLVC teams that are D1 now... Although that might take up the whole non conference schedule.... At Least USI and NKU should play In it with BU... Sure would be much better than Campbellsville-satellite branch. I know schools need some easy wins but realistically BU, NKU, USI are not ever going to get at-large bids to NCAA so why not play better competition and create or recreate rivalries for the fans

Anybody heard the latest on how Betz is doing? Hoping his shoulder is better and that he can go against UK.

RE: 2022-23 Season
Knights essentially defeated Miami (OH) yesterday, but lost to the refs. Sheesh.
Still, can't make that many turnovers and expect a victory.
Merry Christmas to all, especially you great BU fans!

RE: 2022-23 Season
We have not looked good recently. Losses to Miami, Evansville, and Morehead are especially disturbing, because those teams are not that good. Only good win is over Murray. I would think coach would be thinking about shaking up the line up, although I'm not sure there is anybody who deserves to play more and who can help them. He ought to play Fairman more, just to get him more time and experience, I doubt he would make a difference in the wins. Wouldn't be surprised to see Johnson starting, but he has been playing plenty, so that would be a cosmetic change. Hopf and Hatton have played at the same time but mostly it has shown how limited Hatton is offensively. No inside presence. Penn's freakish ability to score inside was covering our lack of inside big man play.

RE: 2022-23 Season
Yeah, not having a playmaker like Penn really hurts. Count me among those wanting to see some more Fairman.
I fear that, tomorrow night, Liberty's McGhee is going to kill us like that little guard Lairy did for Miami.
P.S. This BU team, in very un-Bellarmine fashion, commits too many turnovers.

RE: 2022-23 Season
was happy with the team last night in the sense that they battled back after multiple moments when I thought they might just fold. That said, the team is clearly not on the same level as Liberty or others at the top of the conference I fear. Tipton has shown sporadic flashes, but this team lacks a late-clock go-to scorer who can create for himself (CJ, Penn in the past). Couple that with the turnovers and this team will really have to fight to survive in conference this year. Feeling sadly pessimistic right now...
My silver lining - I have loved what we've seen from Suder and Johnson, and each seems to grow in confidence game by game. If Bellarmine can keep them for all four years they will do great things. The team will need to be improved around them as they grow...

RE: 2022-23 Season
I am a lifelong Bellarmine fan, but i'm feeling a little pessimistic for this season and for the forseable future really. There were times last night when our "four guard" offense became a five guard offense. Johnson and Suder would be great additions on a team with some "go to" guys that the other team has to concentrate their defense on. Peter looks like a great athlete but when he drives to the rim his shot is usually blocked. We aren't getting any easy buckets off our motion offense and any fast break easy buckets are non existent. We're starting to throw up 3 point shots because thats the only option left. Some of these problems can be improved by continued hard work and dedication (which I think the guys are doing) but recruiting is going to be critical for the future. Sorry to sound so pessimistic. We only played 6 guys last night in reality so it looks like the coaching staff has no confidence in the other guys on the bench. They see these guys every day in practice so they obviously know more about the situation than me.

RE: 2022-23 Season
I hear you guys and am also pretty bummed.
The team desperately needs a playmaker who can "create." Way too much perimeter passing and then, absent a turnover, jacking up a three.
Sure hope we can hold onto Johnson and Suder; the program is really screwed if not.

RE: 2022-23 Season
huge win last night - obviously needed after losing all momentum the past few games. great to see the team continue to battle after North Alabama hit consecutive shots late game.
recruiting is going to be more crucial than ever in my mind - with immediate eligibility for transfers, if you cant show young guys (suder, johnson, etc) that they will be competitive each year you risk losing them.
trying to remind myself of patience as well - since I've been a fan (admittedly not long, graduate of 2018) BU has dominated or been very successful each year in D2. while we certainly want to win as much as possible, wins are nowhere near as guaranteed. hoping the team can build off this and right the ship for a winning record this year.

RE: 2022-23 Season
Tough beat tonight but our bench is short....hope Bash back soon as well as Ben. Suder now healthy and is the real deal, could challenge the GOAT by getting us to D1 tourney if he stays. Not too worried about losses since we are still in year 3 of NCAA prison so playing to embarass them when everybody healthy and we win ASUN again. Just noticed banners in "historic" FH, good move.
Why are we playing a game in UL arena when FH not available....should be "historic" Knights Hall. I am calling BU tomorrow to complain. Please join in.

Forgot, many props to GT performance in the game and the season, transformed in the manner of BBach. Never saw it coming. A testament to the program.

RE: 2022-23 Season
Yes, congrats to Tipton -- he's put the squad on his back and impressively carried them a number of moments.
If only BU could've played both halves like the second last night, they'd have won running away from Queens, despite giving up all of those offensive rebounds. Sigh. To be fair, playing so few players must mean the guys are completely exhausted.
I hear you, Smooth, on wins not being critical this season and next. But I think, along the lines of what Tape said, it's important to look competitive, since we're not only recruiting future Knights, but (due to the goofy "open season" on transferring) the current ones too.
By the way, anyone know what happened to Fairman? If his departure was announced, I missed it. Stinks as I thought he would be a future contributor.

RE: 2022-23 Season
Same question Fairman....not on bench and is no longer listed on the roster on the BU athletics webpage. I usually listen to the Coaches interview postgame but I've heard nothing about him. Davenport seemed really negative and upset on the postgame interview after the Queens game.
