Running the board always seems like the hardest part this time of year.
Come on, I need a new tee-shirt!

What’s comical is two weeks ago all I heard from MAC and OU people (whose opinions are usually very credible) is this was by far the best team in school history and deserved to be in the conversation with the Sweet 16 RedHawks and Elite Eight Golden Flashes. They were honestly confused as to why the Bobcats weren’t ranked.

Why not in the conversation with the Elite 8 OU team? I can imagine how perplexed the OU fans must be. Obviously, OU can still win both the regular season title and the tournament, but it is always a real puzzle when a seemingly strong team suddenly gets hammered twice. They could write off the loss at Kent as "just one of those things", but after last night their heads must be swimming.

OU has never been to the Elite Eight, but I get your point.
A closer look at their 2021-2022 schedule shows 17 of their 23 wins (74 percent) are against Quad IV teams. Losses to Kentucky, LSU, Toledo, Kent and Akron were all lopsided blowouts. In other words, they were overhyped and overrated.

Back in the “old” days of the NCAA Tourney—1964–when there were, oddly, only 25 teams invited, OU won two games and lost to Michigan in the Elite 8.
Right, Axeme. The term "Elite eight" hadn't been coined yet, but OU was one of the final eight teams. They beat a decent Louisville team, then knocked off #4 seed Kentucky by 16. Then they lost to the #2 seed Michigan. They won the MAC that year, barely edging out Miami. I was a freshman at Kent State that year. The MAC was pretty strong. I was at the regular season home game against OU and we only lost by 3. Yes, the field was only 25 for a long time. March Madness wasn't a "thing" yet, there was almost no hype, and good luck seeing many games on television. Only the conference winners could go to the NCAA, and I believe the ACC was the only conference to decide the winner via a conference tournament.

Instead of 358 DI teams there were about 180 teams so 68 should be about 34 not that far off. Back then there were something like 16 conference champions and then 7 to 9 at large teams (not from the 16 conferences). Sixth place Villanova wouldn’t have had a chance.

You beat me to it. We both must be really old.

Even more amazing in the 1968 tournament Bowling Green played Marquette in the 1st round of a 23 team field. The game was at KENT STATE!!! Still had a national 3rd place game and 4 third place games. One at each regional. Marquette won 72-71.

Not unusual for that era. The NCAA tournament didn't really start being a big deal until later. Heck, Ohio State played Kentucky in a regional final (OSU won in an upset) that year and it wasn't even carried on a Cleveland TV station. I drove down to my parent's so I could watch it on a Wheeling/Steubenville channel.

Only had three TV stations. Wouldn’t dare knock off Mr Ed for an Ohio St-Kentucky game.
