RE: Y'all May Not Like This
It's sounded all along like JMU just needed a fifth FBS home game in order to play a full Sun Belt schedule in 2022 and effectively be in year 2 of transition, and it's sounded for a while like JMU has that fifth home game and is just waiting to announce it along with everything else. If the CUSA 3 get screwed out of joining for 2022 you wouldn't really think that would make the Sun Belt leave JMU out as well, but I guess we'll see soon.

Hopefully we have all 14 in 2022, overall it seems more likely CUSA is just using this as part of negotiations than that they actually want to force the Sun Belt 3 to play another year of CUSA sports right?

It shouldn’t affect JMU at all. They should get a full compliment of Sun Belt games and the other four to do with as they see, be it FCS or FBS games. The league can get a one year exemption to have uneven divisions.

Maybe Chief has some insight. He's been solid.

What gives you the impression ODU has a different contract? Couldn't it be USM or Marshall that is the holdup?
It could.. Sorry I forgot to put the vice versa in there.

I've wondered for awhile if our contract was different from Marshalls and both were different than ODU's with language due to the time everyone came into the league.

Why would any of the three be different? That doesn't track.

It's a theory.. three different commissioners were in power at each point. Contract language could've changed from point A to point C.

Got it. Good for Hampton. Nice little rise for them after leaving the MEAC.

RE: Y'all May Not Like This
Let me clarify more about contracts..

Unfortunately for me, I've written a few.

Usually I start with a boiler plate that an attorney came up with, and in some cases we've had another attorney come in, review what the original guy had and make adjustments.

Today I write a contract for Party A. In my boiler plate there are a list of conditions that must be met. Usually at the end there was a spot for me to make any clarifications or exclusions that were put into the contract. Party A has opted to sign the contract as is.

A year goes by and incomes Party B. Party B is good with the boiler plate except they don't want to be held to conditions XYZ and after some negotiating, the correct language is inserted and contact is signed.

We learned a lesson with Party B so the next time a Party comes in we discuss the condition. In walks Party C. C agrees with what B did and has other conditions that need to be addressed. Again negotiating and boom you have 3 different contracts.

Someone once said that there might've been a clause in USM's contract stating that since we were a founding member there might some things we weren't held to.

I do wonder if it all boils down to a financial thing if it doesn't happen. Hopefully we'll know soon enough.

Bingo!

The legal battle is not worth it. CUSA, most likely, wants all of the threes TV revenue for the year (Mostly Marshall).

MU does not want to give them its share of a Fighting Irish & App. State tv revenue.

CUSA is causing a stink. Will come down to giving CUSA the TV revenue from MU's game all year, end up in court for the next 4-5 years, stay in CUSA for the year.

My bet, they will stay to avoid any unwanted and lengthy litigation. MU "Fans" might not like it, but it's the best choice.

If it's USM or Marshall I can all but guarantee it isn't by choice

2020 proved NCAA teams could throw together a season of matchups on the fly if they had to. I'm sure JMU will be fine...their schedule might be baptism by fire, but they'll be fine. The other 3 will probably find a way to get there too.

Once Marshall notified CUSA of its intention to leave they automatically forgo the next two years of CUSA distributions (approx. $3M). We’re not writing them a check, we’re forgoing future distributions. In addition, CUSA bylaws require 14 months notice to leave.

It makes sense to me that some of that $3M loss would be mitigated by joining the SBC a year early, especially considering the SBC waived the $2M entrance fee.

If there’s a sticking point, it’s going to be what if any penalty will be imposed for leaving before the 14 month notice.

We’re talking about a difference of 6 months given we gave notice at the end of October. Last time schools left, roughly a half-dozen paid in total what was supposed to be 1 school’s exit fee, and we’re getting hassled over 6 months’ notice.

If we can’t leave in July, we should try to leave effective the start of Spring sports in ‘23. LOL

It’s like when you leave your girlfriend and you and this much hotter girl decide to start dating. But right before your first date with the hotter girl, your ex calls and says she’s pregnant.

This appears to be another Judy fail and if successful likely good for the ones bailing and the Sun Belt.

Having three flagship universities on the way out for the season does more harm than good. Free rent if you get my drift. Sun Belt rising! Cheers to my brothers! 04-cheers
