I’d honestly support that if it came with newer amenities that enhanced the game day experience. As much as I would love to be able to sell out 12k, I just don’t see it happening, unfortunately. I’m hoping they just flatten the entire upper bowl and turn it into a dining/bar area on one side and luxury suites on the other. You’d still be making money off that area which right now isn’t pulling anything in even if it did get opened up.

Only if you can put in luxury boxes that will more than double the potential income from the lost seating. If it were me, I would want enough guaranteed money to cover ten to twenty years of seat revenue if you were selling out.

The athletic department does not own or run the PanAm. Special Events does. I worked concert security when I went to school and we had concerts all the time. I also have tickets to the upcoming Rage Against the Machine concert. It is a sellout and every single seat in the PanAm is needed.

In our master pan, there are drawings for some suites, some other amenities and a curtain that will cut off the upper bowl (I think Climate Pledge has something similar for Seattle U to make the arena more intimate when they play). I think all of these things are possible. I don't mind losing a few seats up top, but I don't think getting rid of the entire upper bowl is the thing to do. That upper bowl is going to get used this weekend for the GCU game. It is another Pack the PanAm game. I suspect we will get 10k+.

I think it depends on which perspective you are coming from. As mentioned, the PanAm is not owned or operated by the Athletic Department. Special Events operates and owns the space, so from their point of view, you would be correct. If looking through the lens of the Athletic Department, I would be all about amenities and game day atmosphere/experience. Both of those perspectives can counter each other at times.

NMSU has been able to pull together some pretty great concerts over the years. I don't live there anymore, so I haven't been in touch with any of that since I left Las Cruces. I have heard a lot of the shows have moved to El Paso since Mother Hubbard retired, but not sure. If they aren't bringing in many good concerts, I think you have to critically look at whether maintaining the venue for concerts is the best path forward.

Yup, the PAC upper bleacher's real estate might be better used (monetarily) for luxury suites.
