Yup, we have three games of 7,800 on record:
- Dec. 5, 1991 (UNLV)
- Jan. 23, 1993 (Richmond)
- Dec. 5, 1992 (Auburn)
Three more of 7,700:
- Dec. 1, 1982 (UVA)
- Feb. 2, 1990 (Richmond)
- Feb. 27, 1993 (Mason)
I was up behind the basket during that Richmond game in '90, never seen the convo that packed. Or wild.
That's where I was too...we were probably feet away from each other
The UNLV game was incredible too. Ahhh good times... hopefully the New Zoo will get to that level some day
um, was everyone sitting behind the basket for the Richmond game? I was sitting there too. is this one of those events where if everyone who claimed to be sitting behind the basket for the UR game, there would have been 5k .
DD, is partly right. the first 15 minutes of the game is the loudest the convo every got.
- UR - check - hate the spiders, especially Kenny Atkinson
- ESPN - check
- pregaming - check
- mindnight - check
- unbelievable play from the Dukes - check
- blowing the convo roof off - check

I was far drunker for the Richmond game than UNLV, and for UNLV I was in the main stands nosebleeds, so maybe the fact we were jammed in that small section behind the hoop made it seemed more crowded, but it was nuts. I was with a group of friends, one of which was dressed like Dickie V. Wish I had that broadcast, I know we were on camera a number of times.
UNLV was a rollercoaster, there was another huge game like that where I recall Steve Hood had a game-winner go in and out. Fess Irvin, man there were some nail-biters. The crowd would live off Lefty's energy and reactions.

Dukes by double digits!! (Why not?)
So thrilled to be making it back home from Nepal for the first venue sellout, as I’m in transit now and won’t make the SELA game tomorrow.

Gamer also has JMU losing the next 5 games after winning the very next one over Radford and going .500 in the CAA.
Per analytical sites, this JMU team right now shows up in the 150 to 175 range. A year ago, JMU was in the 175 range for KenPom. This will really irk some (as will most of this post probably), but Brady's last team at JMU was no. 91 in KenPom.
I expect Ihenacho to be a difference maker and the freshman to make some kind of an impact at some point (hopefully this season). Will be looking to see how they do tonight.
Program has yet to scale the heights we're all hoping for; and this VA team might be the worst one I've ever seen, or at least in recent memory. We're still early in the Byington re-build.
Yeah - I'm with you on where this team is right now. I think we are a very average D1 team, which is better than we were with under Lou. What irked me was moving on from Brady to go to Lou Rowe. Never in a million years.....
Didn't recall Brady having a top 100 team his lasst year, but if he did it was likely the only one in his last 5 years. His NCAA team was right around 150ish. Major problem with Brady was not performing well in the CAAT.
Our goal should be a consistent top 100 program at this point. Once we get there, the bar increases.

Thanks. Cannot figure out how to login with my “Yesolitis” screen name and so it reverted back to the old one I used on the old boards. Y’all know me, I’ve just been crazy busy since COVID. As Bob Seger sings, come January I’m going (home) to Kathmandu.
If any basketball game deserves tailgating, this is it. Only 2 days away from UVA losing to the hoops team in a packed new Electric zoo.
This will be one of those weeks to remember.
2 days away from UVA at JMU hoops.
4 days away from Villanova at JMU women’s hoops
5 days away from Montana at JMU playoff football
Throw in women’s hoops playing at UNC today.
Bourne has to be on cloud 9.
I will absolutely find a way to rearrange my schedule and work in Harrisonburg a few days this week.
Sports mania
While driving around the Bank on Saturday for the football game I saw several sign boards warning of heavy traffic and delays on 12/7. Thought that was interesting being up 4 days before the game. Gonna be a wild time at the Bank on Tuesday.

Oops, forgot to mention Radford at JMU hoops 6 days from now on Saturday night. Not a huge game like the others this week, but definitely a reason to stay in the Burg all weekend to get in a Football and basketball game.
Only one day away. Has JMU ever had a better chance to upset UVA?
1- the Cavs are struggling on offense and having a down year at 6-3. No NBA players on their roster
2- JMU has also struggled on offense, but has shown being capable of strong defense. Should be a very low scoring game.
3- the game is at home in a sold out shiny new electric zoo.
The Dukes are 0-11 all-time with a couple of close losses against Harrisonburg’s own Ralph Sampson led UVA team. Speaking of Ralph, he was at the final game in the Convo. I wonder if he will be at tomorrow’s game.

He was at the Mason game. Or maybe it was the ODU game. I've seen him once this season already.

Please, please let the students in early so they can take all the general admission seats behind the South baseline before UVA fans get them. They should be student seating anyway, but somebody made a poor choice to allow general admission tickets front row seats if they get there early enough. I’m waiting for that to be fixed.
Homecourt advantage is huge in college hoops and probably worth a few extra points in this game that means so much to the program.
1- UVA is not as good this year. Vulnerable. No NBA prospects on their roster.
2- JMU doesn’t have another big game all year. This is our superbowl.
3 - Dukes will need to shoot well from 3. Falden, Hodge, and who else will be the 3rd?
Whatver happens, we know it will be low scoring and JMU will be forced to win a half court game that UVA can keep in the 40’s or 50’s which is the exact opposite of how coach By has built this roster. I don’t like the chances, but it will be fun to watch and root for the underdog in our new Electric Zoo.
Who do we talk to about the general admission situation? I'm not being snarky; this is something I've been worried about since the seating chart came out. Quite frankly, one side should be the band and one the students, like almost everywhere else. That way we know they will both be filled regardless of the opponent. This is not rocket science and we don't need to reinvent the wheel.
I have been to all the home games.....and it looks like to me that it works perfect as designed. Not sure why folks feel the need to nit-pick when this arena has been an absolute HOMERUN
Ooo. That is juicy. I thought UVA would be a 10 point favorite at least. The wise guys in Vegas are expecting a close one and they aren’t wrong very often.
What is the under/over ? 85? Only half joking but this game could be played in the 40’s if both offenses continue to struggle.
Coach Bennett talks about the JMU game a little in the middle of his post presser after beating Pitt on a fortunate last second shot that hit the rim 3 times before dropping. He is expecting a “hostile” environment.
Let’s make sure it is everything he expects.

I realize that UVA usually plays tremendous defense. If that is the reason we don't score much, so be it. I'd hate for the reason for a low scoring game is that we slowed down our offense. I think we do better when we're up-tempo, whipping the ball around and playing suffocating defense. We do have a 10 deep roster to fuel the pace.
