RE: Let’s Talk Baseball…
I was a little disappointed with how last year turned out but from what I've read Southern should be stout this year.

Other than that, we have steadily invested in the facilities and while they are not the biggest in the Belt, they are very nice. Hennon has been here for 22 seasons and is 754–522. If we don't see another 40+ win season in the next few years I would wager we move on but that's my opinion.

No matter what. I'm looking forward to the Sun Belt becoming one of the best baseball conferences in the country.

We need to get back to being a 2-3-4 bid league again. It shouldn't be only the conference winner going to the tournament. I think with the adds we made we will be multiple bid each year.

Marshall has historically sucked at baseball and I expect that to continue until we get our on campus stadium built. Then and only then do we have a shot to actually build a program. I apologize now for dragging down the baseball RPI.

What is the status of a new ballpark? I feel like it was in the works but haven't heard anything in a while on it.

Glad y’all are coming with us to the SBC. Should be another great season battle in our final seasons in CUSA.

Likewise. When we joined I didn’t think we’d ever win a title between USM,Rice, FAU, etc. Last year was a special year and we look poised to build on it. Some questions in the bullpen but we should be slugging with the best of them again.

I hope we have a regular season series. It'll be good for both of our ratings and a big part in who wins C-USA this season.

No doubt. I almost turn my nose up to 2 but 3 should be the norm. Anything less in the SBC is disgraceful.

Covid put a halt to much of the progress, which may end up being a blessing. To my understanding since that time Marshall and Huntington has decided on a different site to place the baseball stadium, one that most folks think will actually be better for all parties. I don't have my finger on the pulse enough to know why, but I do know that the original site was going to cost much more than expected due to additional environmental cleanup and something about having to relocate some major pipelines, though I'm not really clear on that part. I THINK the new site will be somewhat less expensive, and honestly the location is better in my opinion. I'll see if I can find the link that shows where the new ballpark is supposed to be now.

RE: Let’s Talk Baseball…
Here is it. https://s-ga.com/wp-content/uploads/2017...Report.pdf

Pages 17, 56 and 61 kinda show the new layout. This was actually the plan back in 2017, but it wasn't working out as one of the properties were unable to be obtained. That has changed, and the city/school are now in control of all the property needed. When we couldn't get all the property, a Flint pigment plant property became available, and that was going to the site of the new ballfield. But as stated, Covid put a huge slow down on the development of the Flint property, and since then we have gotten control of the property for the original plan. So it appears that's back on, at least in part. Things could change however, and until ground is really broken it could change again I suppose.

RE: Let’s Talk Baseball…
Southern will have a ton of new pitching, but that's often been the case and we are usually able to run out a starting rotation that can compete with anyone in the conference while molding a couple of guys into late inning stoppers... Just a matter of how effective we can be with midweek starters and all the low-leverage bullpen arms.

I don't think we'll mash at last year's level with McWhorter gone, but we should still hit for good average up and down the lineup and Ledford will be a HR and RBI monster if we can find consistent protection behind him in the lineup.

After a quick search of some of your typical opponents, this is what I found so far:

USA: 2/22
@USA: 2/23
@Louisiana: 3/4-3/6
USA: 3/8
Alabama: 3/15
Ole Miss: 4/5 (in Pearl, MS)
Ole Miss: 5/11

Thanks! Yeah I’ve done that and seen some of the schedule breakdown on Twitter. I mentioned the UL and USA series in the OP. Excited for both, going to try and make it down to Lafayette for the series. I know it got pretty heated last year.

Nice job getting Ole Miss on a neutral field in the minor league park and then having them in Hattiesburg. I know our state SEC school wouldn't typically bite at such an arrangement. I think only in 2018 did we play them neutral site and in Lafayette with no trip to Refineryville.

Oddly enough, Ole Miss will do this with us pretty often. We’ll rotate between home and home every few years and then always play a game in Pearl. State is the same way with usually one game in Pearl and then every few years a weekend series either in Hattiesburg or Starkville. Alabama is a school that comes to mind that refuses to come to Hattiesburg, but we’ll play in Tuscaloosa for a midweek game.
We play Alabama in Hattiesburg this upcoming year.

You have a source on this? Because rarely does Alabama actually come to Hattiesburg.

Anyone who knows my post history on this board knows that if I post something like a stat, or in USM’s case a future game vs Bama, I’m not doing it without a verifiable source. Check Alabama’s athletics website. As I stated previously, Bama comes into Hattiesburg on 3/15.

I remember y'all were crushing Alabama this year and then completely collapsed in the 9th and gave up like 5 runs. It was on TV and I turned it off thinking y'all had already won.

I’m trying to figure out who would just make that up. I heard about it weeks ago from our head coach. Maybe I should have asked him if he had a source on this.

Second baseman had back to back errors to load the bases for them. If either of those routine outs get made we win. As the story goes Alabama loaded the bases and hit a grand salami.

Speaking of baseball stadiums, ODU is currently conducting a feasibility study to either build a brand new stadium or continue doing incremental upgrades to it as they have been.
https://www.pilotonline.com/sports/vp-sp...story.html

I've been told that the likelihood of them building new is very good. And the renderings should be delivered soon by Populous. Would expect an update from ODU to the public in the December/January time frame.

If they do build new, the team would play at Harbor Park in Downtown Norfolk while it's being constructed.

RE: Let’s Talk Baseball…
While the league has some very good teams, there are a couple of factors that hurt.

1. Geography. The Gulf Coast and Texas teams have a lot of solid programs in their area and have great midweek schedules. Georgia Southern tries their best, but can only do so much. The rest are hampered by their geography.

2. Your league is only going to be as good as the bottom. There are some schools that don't invest nearly enough money in their programs. Their facilities are poor to fair and I personally don't think their administration cares that much. As a result, playing those schools really can hurt your RPI especially if they jump up and bite you at your place (They still have decent players on scholarship, after all.)

Some of the schools here (and I guarantee UL, USM are two of them and maybe South as well) generate more money for baseball than they do for men's basketball.
