The only way CUSA survives after MTSU and WKU leaving is making a Texas-centric conference and this is extremely unlikely to happen. No way anyone from the MVFC or ASUN is going to jump in with the distances now. Maybe Jacksonville State? I don't see any other options and this is extremely unlikely to happen.

Is Texas ready to have 17 FBS schools? Rebrand this the new Southwestern Conference. CUSA's name is lava.

It need not be "Texas-centric"—there are several southeastern schools (plus Missouri State) that could move up: Chattanooga, EKU, Florida A&M (they moved up once but couldn't make a go of it as an indy), Jacksonville State (which you mentioned) & Kennesaw State, for example. Others have been mentioned, but I don't think they're nearly as ready as those 5.

C-USA's best possible future is 2 regional clusters (southeast and southwest/central). Missouri State might fit in with either cluster. It could be a pretty decent conference.

I agree that C-USA needs re-branding. Too much of a stigma of failure now. I don't have a suggestion for a new name—but nothing similar to the existing brand.

RE: Could the Three Amigos Rebuild CUSA?
One idea I think is interesting, is maybe you could build a funky pseudo indy conference out of C-USA. The basis is this:

- A conference needs 8 full FBS members to be an FBS conference
- You need to have an even (or as even as possible) number of teams to have divisions
- You are required to play round robin in your division, but there are no requirements for the number of cross division games you need to play

So what you could do is get a cluster of 4 schools, one on the East Coast, the other in the Southwest. They would play round robin schedules against each other (3 games) and then schedule the rest as OOC. The winner of each division would then play the western division winner in the conference championship.

East: FIU, Liberty, JSU, EKU
West: UTEP, NMSU, LT, McNeese

3 Conference Games, 9 OOC games, winner of each division goes to the C-USA championship.

CUSA is fine but maybe a rebranding is the way to go. You don't want to make it directional sounding. Maybe just call it "The Conference".

We'll move the basketball tournament to Nashville. You can have half of our exit fees. You're now the flagship of the conference and can invite whomever you convince to join. I'm not sure what other perks we can offer you.

Which is why I think they will leave. Everyone else leaving at ESPN's command ruined any potential geographical fit for this conference that would've benefited all of the remaining five members. That's just not going to be possible.

As much as it’s going to pain me living in Atlanta and easy to travel
To see my Toppers Play other near by teams.
Those teams are not in CUSA anymore anyway

And the biggest reason I don’t want WKU to stick around
For the rebuild is , Don’t want WKU in a conference with a
Commissioner that could not rebuild a log cabin
Made of Lincoln logs.

Texas population 29m..currently 12 FBS
Virginia population 8.7m currently 4, about to be 5 FBS.

Georgia population 10.7m..4 FBS
North Carolina population 10.7 ...7 FBS..

There isn't much rhyme or reason state by state..

Alabama population...4.8m 5 FBS schools and some wanting Jacksonville State to move up would make it 6...

CUSA is not fine if MTSU and WKU leaves. The conference is basically waiting to be transferred to hospice.

Basically, CUSA is doomed.

CUSA will go all scorched earth and invite all FCS FB schools in the nation and make everyone FBS.

It’s not about the money, it’s about sending a message.

But seriously, is there an NCAA rule on maximum membership? What incentive does CUSA have to not invite any and everyone at this point? Watering down FBS? Why would they care?

I mean, the incentive not to is that the conference gets the same CFP money to split up regardless of the number of members. So splitting that money 10 ways is more money for each member than splitting it 100ish ways.

That said it sounds dope. I want CUSA to have a 8 way tie for the conference championship one year in this wacky 100 team conference.

...the only other thing needed for this MegaConference would be to dump Judy and install a new commissioner... ...and who else but...
