West Division
NMSU
UTEP
SHSU
LT
North Dakota State
South Dakota State
East Division
WKU
MTSU
FIU
Jacksonville State
Missouri State
Chattanooga
That's the reasonably attainable league I would cobble together.
The unrealistic league is
WKU
MTSU
LaTech
FIU
UTEP
Missouri State
Southern Illinois
Illinois State
Northern Iowa
SHSU
Focus on becoming more of an in-between conference. In between the MAC, MWC, and SBC geographically with a little sprinkling of overlap here and there.
I have a hard time believing that ut-k would "allow" ut-c to go FBS in football. Chattanooga, the city, is an arnge stronghold.

East Tennessee State, as well. It would be a mistake for Conference USA to invite schools that would simply be picked off by the Suck Belt later on just to fill holes in their geography and to spite Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky.
CUSA needs to look west of Tennessee and Kentucky to find strong brands that can elevate this league.

Springfield is in a metro population of about 500,000

They are actively raising money for football stadium upgrades.
Basketball arena seats 11,500
Men’s basketball is almost always top 100 (one Sweet 16)
Women’s basketball is almost always top 25 (Two Final Fours)
Baseball is a perennial top 50 team (One college World Series, Two Super Regionals
Men’s Soccer is presently ranked #8 went to the Sweet 16 last year.
Football team is presently ranked number 17 in FCS. Coached by Bobby Petrino. The president has made a big push in the last two years to improve the football program. There is support now and donors are behind it.
Women’s volleyball has been historically a top 100 program.
7 hours from both WKU and MTSU, 6 hours from La Tech
The Bears are going to move up at some point whether it happens now we’re not. I would say within the next three years for sure.
I think Missouri State would be the best add. I think Sam Houston State, Jacksonville State, and Delaware are OK potential adds as well.

Mo State is the bridge to Illinois State and the XDSU's. . All four are programs with huge upsides and make so much more sense then another regional TX,TN, or AL move up.

This. All we need is for both parties to want each other. It's a shame, seems like, that Mo. State is thinking that they're bigger than they are. I don't know much about their sports but I like that they have it in their mind that they want to move up. Now's the time and if you snooze you just might lose.
Mo. State, don't play hard to get or you'll stay another few years in fcs. Your call.

The smart play is just take their two biggest sellers NDSU and SDSU. It’s similar to what happened with the SBC and JMU. JMU thought they were better so the SBC took other strong FCS teams. They ultimately end up exactly where they originally thought they were too good for. I’m sure if we took NDSU, SDSU and SHSU then Missouri St would reconsider the move.

I honestly don’t think that’s the case at all. I think our admin wants to make sure we have all the backing and facilities in place to be successful before we move up.

Yep. I think maybe saying "no" now and "yes" 6 months from now is a possibility. This all happened so quickly, and just now coming out (hopefully) of COVID and the pandemic's financial burden.

definitely!
1, stabilize by statements of commitments by the 5
2. build with 2 fbs teams: NMSU & Liberty
3. add for future growth with top fcs teams: NDSU, SHSU, SDSU
4. those wavering will commit, and cusa will have options then

They have to commit ASAP simply because they need time to fully be eligible for whatever FBS rules call for. Not six months from now. That's embarrassing to cusa officials to be kept waiting. The worm on that hook is FBS and the bait depends whether you do or not accept and if you wait too long another fish might just come in and take that worm, you know, the way they do negotiations sometimes on Shark Tank. Many times the entrepreneur goes backstage without a deal because he negotiated himself out of it.

That may be so. But as we've seen, a "no" today may be a "yes" next week (or tomorrow).

Knowing our admin we also aren’t going to say no without a home to land in in the future.
