RE: 91.5 penalty yards per game
So, didn't we just win the CUSA title last year? I hate losing like everyone else but I don't think the sky is falling. We're still in the hunt for a title. While losing homecoming to Rice is not ideal for any coach, the season can still be salvaged. Reduce the bone head penalties and we'll be fine...even with the play calling.

When we opened the year everyone, coaches included, was harping on the fact the this was probably the deepest and most talented team in UAB history. Now the excuse is injuries.
For years, when we would have mediocre seasons, everything pointed to facilities and fans needed to pony up. Well guess what, we have some of the best facilities in G5, the stadium although only in its initial season, we have been able to recruit to it for a couple of seasons now.
We all have bad days at work. Own it, correct it, move on.
I know many want the OC gone. But I think it's a doubled edged sword. I think one of the reason Coach Clark has stuck around UAB is because of his loyalty. But his loyalty is not only to UAB but to his staff and their families. If we wanted a coach who could fire an assistant at the drop of the hat, they probably would also take another job at the drop of the hat.
Don't forget that Clark fired Les Koenning after a single season in which UAB performed much better than expected (2017).
All the players hated Koenning. Like legit hated the guy. Defensive players who had no reason to even hated him. So when he was fired and replaced i was not surprised.
Still fired him after one season and he probably had a family too. The difference is he had no high school or Jax State connection to Clark. Will Coach Clark fire one of his friends? Callaway dithered on Schumann and when he finally let him go it was too late. The program has to come before relationships.
If we do not win the CUSA title and there are no staff changes, just raise a big ole red flag because we will be headed down the wrong path.
You read a whole lot into what i said than what was there. I was simply stating one of the major reasons why we let Koenning go...
No, just stating the obvious. Clark was quick to pull the trigger once with an OC, when the units production wasn't bad at all. Amazingly good considering the circumstances. You're just confirming that it may have been about personality and not performance. That's precisely my point.

What evidence do you have that we will reduce the penalties?
It’s not about just losing to Rice, man.. look at the bigger picture. Congrats we won CUSA.. is that all you want to aspire to?

No, I'm just highlighting the fact that season is not over and we still have chance at the CUSA title. Right now all we can win CUSA titles and bowl games. In coming future that'll be AAC titles and bowl games and if we're lucky ride a wave like Cincinnati. We have to reduce the penalties...that is a must because that's killed us multiple times this season alone.

RE: 91.5 penalty yards per game
I’d say calling 3 consecutive pass plays in the scoreboard redzone and failing on 4th down cost us. No run plays in the redzone? Are we serious? Maybe that’s the Missed FG drive. I remember most. Even a FG there gets us halfway to the 6 points we trailed by in the 4th. Then in the 4th we are in the opposite redzone and we go for it on 4th down and fail instead of taking the FG. If Matt Quinn is missing FGs, we have Caden friggin Long on the bench.
Then on the final drive, when we’ve been backed up so far, he calls a dump pass that keeps our guy in bounds, instead of going down field….
Penalties are far from our only issue.
Penalties and injuries are being allowed to excuse inept play calling from the OC and decision making by the HC.

The missed fg resulted after the three passes in a row. So many odd coaching decisions were made that day.

Never seen more questionable decisions in one game. They were head-scratching on the front end, and especially troubling when they failed.

under clark we always lose a game that we are not suppose to lose (ON Paper ) and 2021 is not different
UAB can achieve all his goals but just winning the rest of their game ( i dont expect rice to go undefeated the rest of the season )

Well, at least this got us mentioned during Auburn-Ole Miss. Announcer: "Ole Miss leads the nation in penalties at over 10 per game. Only UAB has more penalty yards per game." Any press is good press???

...The penalty issue has been present since The Return - I don't know specific numbers, but I do know it has cost us several games over this stretch... …and that is to some degree on the staff, especially the extracurricular/dead ball stuff, which is on average pretty avoidable.
I was watching the Texas-Baylor game (for SOME reason...), and they noted that Baylor had a penalty-free game last week. Now, who knows, they may have their own set of refs, but still... If those goofs can do it, we should at LEAST be able to cut ours down by 50 percent at least...

Ironic that Baylor had a penalty-free game.

...yeah, of all teams... I think their coach might end up in Austin, or at least will be a candidate, as Sark isn't probably going to make it to the UT-to-SEC transition date...
