I think if you are in CUSA and have a budget near the bottom of the league, moving to the SBC could make a lot of sense. Football would not suffer, and all of your other sports would probably go up in the conference rankings because the SBC funds those sports more like your school, and they are less competitive than a conference like CUSA.

Eventually your recruiting in those sports will "adjust" to the new conference level so that could be a very temporary benefit.

Recruiting players yes, but recruiting coaches is a different matter. Today some schools are running CUSA teams in olympic sports with SBC level coaches because of the level they can pay. Moving to the SBC would level the playing field.

With the Mountain West holding their ground, I believe this leaves the Texas CUSA schools very vulnerable as most expansion by the AAC and Sun Belt will be in the east.

I believe Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee will both turn their attention to the Mid-American Conference where they almost landed 8 years ago. There's something to be said about being in a stable conference, and the MAC is the most stable longest-tenured non-Power Conference in Division 1-A.

Western may decide to try that but MT will not go to a northern based conference. wkcc wanted to go but wouldn’t go without us and we said no back when it was on the table years ago before we moved to C-USA. That was the decision when we had the chance to go and I don’t see that changing. Our idiot administration thinks C-USA and Sun Belt will merge or reconstitute along geographic lines. Although they are idiots they’re probably right that’s happening sooner or later.

All I know is that our idiot administration has taken us from one of the most competitive all sports athletics programs outside the P5 and transformed it into an utter shitshow that has no redeeming qualities at this moment to offer any league. Not even the Sun Belt.

At this point the AAC has gauged interest of every G5 team. They even called AState about 2 weeks ago, which I still think is a courtesy, but also shows how bad of a situation they are in.

I'm sure you meant "Called back".

Aresco has said they weren't reaching out to anyone and the CSU AD confirmed they reached out to the AAC first.

NO way in hell WKU goes to MAC, this clown is just making up stuff at this point. Most posters are, but the MAC stuff it totally made up.

Surprised this post has been up this long without SBC fans crying, whining, slinging snot, talking about how it will never happen because they are superior. They are a special bunch to be honest.

It's important to note that Landon does like not the AAC and is in fact a big proponent of Marshall joining the SBC. I only say that to say, the fact he said this means he has reliable sources who told him this information. I'm sure it killed him to even type those words.

Who knows what will happen, but I'm hoping the AAC makes their moves relatively soon so everyone can move on.

Oh my god...

First you want in the Sun Belt for the rivalries and ESPN, now you want in the AAC for 25% of what they are currently making, and one rivalry...

It's just sad...

WHAT?

App is our only "rivalry" in the SBC and that's only in football as you guys suck at everything else.

You want to talk about sad and delusional...you guys think ANYONE would choose the SBC over the AAC. WOW...you guys have really lost it.

Can't imagine what Wichita State must be thinking especially knowing Memphis has one leg out the door and just waiting on the call. Hell they probably dont even get a half share of the money those schools leaving have to pay. Now stuck in a one bid conference

I know you won't reveal your source, but can you describe generally who they are? Also, will it just be those two or will there be others?

No I don't. I said I didn't want the AAC if they were adding MWC teams. Things have changed since then.

And for the record I will only be let down if we don't get invited and the AAC takes FAU/WKU/ODU. I would be let down if that happened for sure.

A shame, really. Marshall playing games in Fort Collins or Colorado Springs would be my dream. Maybe if we join the AAC it'll happen in the future...

Translated, I didn’t want the AAC because Marshall wasn’t on the AAC’s radar.

You only become pro X conference when X conference is an option. You think it’s clever but everyone can see through your pimping and hating of conferences depending on the wind and if it’s blowing Marshall’s way.

This ensures your feelings won’t get hurt.

I am betting Wichita makes overtures to the MWC to be the yin to Hawaii's yang once things finish falling apart. Unless by some miracle the AAC makes basketball centric additions.

False. We all know the SBC is begging Marshall to join. So that's an option and I'm not "pro SBC" overall.
