RE: Marshall in talks with the AAC?
Lets be real here.... The AAC is probably in talks with over 20 schools, doesn't mean an invite is imminent.

Landon stays tippsy most of the time, doesn't he?

Reading some of his stuff makes me think he's in a Bermuda shirt with sunglasses, a hat and a pipe; screaming at his computer and asking for more Vicodin and gin.

And UAB but I think if we move at all it should be to the SBC. The AAC is not stable especially if Memphis packs their bags.

Define "stable".

I may have a different opinion on whether "stability" in a G5 conference is a good thing.

Agreed. SBC is stable right now because the AAC doesn't want their schools for obvious reasons.

What are those "Obvious" reasons?

Lack of facilities, markets, overall sports quality, budgets, and academics.

Which fits Marshall as well. Come on man.

If you want to think that I suppose. Marshall is just as much of a fit for the AAC as we are the SBC. That's why we are currently in CUSA, the tweener. Step above SBC and a step below the AAC.

Man, you are full of baloney. First of all there are more imminent moves going on right now and you keep bringing up this half-baked little mac theory. It is not wise to keep repeating ideas that have no proof , link, or logic.

--- WKU and MT are southern schools culturally for the most part

--- travel would be difficult

-- we recruit the South and play most games in the South

-- the Mac does NOT want to expand

It is a no go! Sorry, chief!

Cultural differences:
Define "southern." This is 2021. The Civil War was a long time ago, and since it's clear to me that Virginia is no longer a red state politically I don't really see cultural boundaries anymore between the South and Midwest. Also, there is as many farms in the Midwest as there is in the South.

Travel:
If your closest conference member outside of MTSU is in Denton, Texas over 12 hours away because other CUSA members decided to leave, WKU would be closer to every single MAC school including Buffalo than they would be North Texas.

Recruiting in the South:
Why would playing in the MAC stop that? And it's not like CUSA is blowing the doors off MAC teams in head to head anyways.

The MAC'S doors on expansion are always opened if it makes sense to them. If you think WKU will never consider the MAC, then maybe you should talk to the people, who were the president and AD of your school 8 years ago to find out why they nearly sent you there.

And above all, WKU will never take being a 1-A Independent over a membership in the Mid-American Conference. It could happen if CUSA dissolves. It's going to be on the table.

8 years ago? It was closer to 15, and was part of our FCS to FBS transition talks.

I'm pretty sure it was both when WKU was transitioning to 1-A and when the Big East was expanding leaving CUSA and Sun Belt on uncertain waves. Seems like MTSU wasn't happy with the Sun Belt and would've gone somewhere else even if it wasn't CUSA, and WKU was also in that discussion.

It was right before our feasibility study and subsequent transition, if I’m not mistaken.

That would make it 2007-2008 when the MAC talks occurred.

That's it exactly. Marshall is pitching to the AAC and not the other way around. Chuck Landon doesn't know anything. Just another rumor.

Most of cusa has been rumored to the AAC at some point. They will invite who they want and anyone would accept it from cusa

No one on these message boards and none of these so called sources know anything. So nobody should act like they or anyone else is in.

With the Mountain West holding their ground, I believe this leaves the Texas CUSA schools very vulnerable as most expansion by the AAC and Sun Belt will be in the east.

I believe Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee will both turn their attention to the Mid-American Conference where they almost landed 8 years ago. There's something to be said about being in a stable conference, and the MAC is the most stable longest-tenured non-Power Conference in Division 1-A.

Once again no way in hell WKU goes to MAC, we recruit for all sports south and deeper. WKU Coaches would revolt any mention of MAC and going into family homes and saying yea we will be in Toledo and Michigan in the snow in Nov, cannot wait!

As far as Marshall, how they hell do they have the budget to go in American, unless American realize zero schools left to met their budget requirements, if thats the case than WKU will go with Marshall too...

You're right that the budget would be a major issue. The only justification I've seen on the Marshall board is that we're expected to announce the executive chairman of a Fortune 500 company as our next university president. His business acumen would then be used to improve all aspects of university financial health, including athletics. But again, that's just a theory.

Just stop the WKU to the MAC talk, look at all WKU sports rosters and where these players from. We recruit Tenn. and south for all sports. Football half the rosters is from Alabama, Georgia, Texas, or Florida. Same for basketball. Marshall's student enrollment is 7k less than WKU, I just dont see it.

Depends on who you ask. For most of us he has a nick name of Chuck "Done Deal" Landon. He isn't a sports writer more than opinion writer and sometimes hit piece artist.

I personally haven't read anything he has wrote since a day before the Military Bowl in 2013. He wrote a hit piece on Doc and the entire football program. Swore then that would be the last thing I read of his.

I have no idea if he likes Huff or not. I know he hated Doc with a thousand burning suns. Mainly because Doc never catered to him and actually banned him from practice in his 1st year.

Landon is actually a Marshall grad but Ive never read a piece of his that just flat gave credit to Marshall doing something right. Even in his decent articles he would have some back handed comment about the school.
