And honestly, it doesn't do much for rain either if there's much wind at all.
It's pretty much an expensive awning/sun visor.

According to those in the know the building will be grounded in a way that it will allow for practice in the presence of lightning storms.

Why are y’all acting like there aren’t already open air practice facilities even in this exact conference? Did y’all give South Alabama this much grief? I think if they are allowed to practice in the lighting then we will be too. 07-coffee3

Drew, why are you taking such personal offense to this? You went on a crusade on twitter arguing with App fans who were very clearly trolling you.

Yes - we caught grief when it was announced and again when a windstorm knocked down the initial framing. But once it was built the criticism went away. It’s a nice facility and escaping the rain in the rainiest city in the country was a must. It’s also nice to escape the extreme heat. Ours has a lightning protection system built into it and I would imagine GS would replicate that.

Basically a big Faraday cage.

I like it and it'll be great for the team and even fans, BUT the parking could be an issue. I just hope the prices don't go up too much and I can keep my spot.

I have to imagine that by the time you’ve paid for the cost of the turf, steel structure, lighting, and roofing material, adding walls wouldn’t increase the price tag by all that much.

Somebody might have already mentioned it but what is the point of having a closed-in covered practice facility if you are in the Deep South? Close the walls and then you have to install climate control, which to me is a waste.

We didn’t install climate control in ours. We just have built in fans and bay doors to circulate the air.

Seems like having walls would better protect the players from the elements and probably help extend the life of the turf and equipment in the facility. .

It rains more frequently in Seattle, but it’s a light rain. When it rains in Mobile it is usually significant rainfall. We’re already over 72” of rainfall for the year (our average is around 68”).

Seattle has the most days with rain, but your typical Seattle rain is a pleasant drizzle.

When it comes to actual inches of rain per year, the Gulf Coast puts the rest of the country to shame. The Gulf of Mexico is so hot and humid that in the summer it becomes a daily thunderstorm machine.

From a structural standpoint, can someone explain how exactly do you ground it so that you can still practice in a lightening storm? I’m legitimately curious since the NFL just delayed the start of a game in a dome, citing the open ends.

I think you have that backwards my friend. Y’all were the ones getting hot and bothered on Twitter that Georgia Southern fans liked our design and preferred it to your dump. 03-lmfao
