This is a great idea. I wish UAB would run a resell/donate secondary market like some pro teams do. I'd gladly donate tickets I'm not going to be able to use, or buy some extra Blaze's Corner tickets, if I knew they were getting into the hands of people who would use them. Kids groups like Big Brothers / Big Sisters, military, police/firefighters, families of the long-term hospitalized, etc. I'd gladly support something along those lines.
I've emailed the athletic department. I'll post the info I receive, if they get back to me. I know we are late in the game but I'm certain we all want to do what we can to make it a sellout.
Yes , it can be done. They sent something earlier about it. You commit and they find an organization as you mentioned above to provide tickets.

...another 'slice' of the total will be visitor tix... not sure if Liberty travels at all, but I figure they may have a few hundred at least... anyone know what the allotment was for them, and if any were returned for general public?

I actually emailed them today. Here was their response:
We are still working on pickup event logistics for these. We’ll communicate when we have something set in stone. However, you can come pick up at our office anytime, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is nice and all but it doesn't solve a specific problem. It calls on people to buy "extra" tickets for a good cause. Love it. But if I have my own tickets that I can't use, I'd love to be able to donate them and get them used through a managed program with partners that helps the university look good and helps me feel good about it vs. hitting people up on Facebook lol. Every NFL team does this. I don't have to buy in advance or buy extras. If I find out on Monday that I can't make Saturdays game, I can get those tickets sold or use through the NFL team.

Great to hear. Do we know how many seats are allocated to the student section?

Don't forget the A State game.
I swear to this day that USM crowd of 44669 was well over 50,000 a LOT of folks were not counted in that game. People were herded through grates with no turnstiles by the Park Board. I would even say compare the USM photo with the A&M photos. That crowd (A&M) was an actual turnstile count. No question the USM crowd is larger.
Oh well let's break a record Saturday shall we?
A colleague of mine was an intern/graduate assistant at UAB Athletics at this time. He said they literally just made up attendance numbers off the top of their head. He said the 44,669 was the number he estimated and said he laughed when he read the Birmingham News the next day and that was given as the official attendance. I absolutely believe there was more than 50k there. It was well into the 2nd quarter before we made it in the game. Traffic was atrocious.

I was told the band + student section totals 4,500 seats. So with a capacity of 47,100 that leaves us 42,600 to sell to the public. With 9,597 left as of noon, that puts us at approximately 33k tickets sold. If we assume approximately 1k tickets are allocated to the visitors, then we've sold 32k tickets. I would imagine unsold visitor tickets would be available the day of the game.

I’m with you. I’d like a donation portal too. In addition, I’d like an option to buy extras to donate but I’m not sure I’d like to do the whole season.

Redmont had only a few left, none viewable online, but they were more than $400 per night. Tutwiler is sold out. Some of the hotels around UAB had a few open, cheapest I found was $162 plus tax so you're looking at $200+
In addition to UAB-Liberty, it's Talladega weekend + Ole Miss at Alabama bringing people into town also. Rooms at a premium.
Just canceled a room at the Tutwiler at 10:45 pm. I think the rate was around $220 when I booked it.

Donation Portal does not really help the program make money. Selling available tickets does.
Noble, but not beneficial to the program.
Maybe a live auction/buy it now portal with all funds flowing to the foundation would work.
I would volunteer to help with such an endeavor.

We are talking about two things.
First, tickets that have already been purchased. Making sure folks get in your seat if you can’t make it to the game.
Second, purchasing additional tickets and donating them to an organization with the help of the Athletic Department.
Both are good and won’t hurt the coffers.
