Even if we lost both in a few years, its still a solid viable conference. Btw, it must be really dead on your own board. You dont actually have to be involved in every thread about the AAC.
THis thread is specifically about the AAC and MWC, which you are in neither. Maybe give it a rest a bit.
UAB doesn't really have fans, so to speak. But they will be in the AAC. Hurray 45,000 seat stadium...boo that it's less than 50% full.

That's pretty uninformed. We've been averaging around 25k/game since the return in 2017. And that's a dump of a stadium in a bad part of town. I think it's reasonable to expect we'll increase that average playing in a brand new stadium in a better part of town surrounded by hotels, restaurants, topgolf, etc.

The days of using stadium attendance are kinda over, especially in the age of covid.
UAB has decent tv numbers. Their one of the teams that the AAC sees as an investment.
We could go with an FAU to invest in but UAB is seems as being closer to breaking out than FAU.

Agree. I could see UAB averaging about 28,000 to 30,000 in the new facility. And if the program is eventually an AAC member, the number could increase to 33,000 to 35,000. Good luck to the Blazers.

RE: The easy answer. AAC MWC merger
Thanks to the announcement of the schools the AAC is considering, the narrative in the media has now shifted to how the AAC may maintain its stature as the top G5 conference.
If the western group joins the conference the AAC would look something like this:
AAC East:
Memphis
Navy/Wichita
Temple
Tulane
ECU
USF
AAC West:
SMU
Tulsa
SDSU*^
Boise St.*^
CSU^
Air Force*
*Strong (or intermittently strong) FB program
^StrongBB program
If this scenario unfolds, the AAC would be replacing 2 strong FB (UC & UCF) and 2 strong BB schools (UH & UC) with 2-3 strong FB programs (BSU, SDSU, & AF) and 3 good BB schools (SDSU, BSU, & CSU).
.
Questions:
*How likely is it that the 4 MWC teams will be joining the AAC?
*Would the four schools have been identified by name if they weren't seriously considering the idea of joining the AAC?
*How would it benefit SDSU, BSU, CSU, & AF to join the AAC?
*Would all four be likely to join as all-sports members, or would it be possible that Air Force might join as a FB-only member?
*Why was UAB announced as the next (5th) team on the AAC's short list?
*Would UAB, UTSA, and FAU be the AAC's top 3 choices, as some stories have suggested if the western group doesn't move? If so, which school would be #4?

Potential being defined as a combination of student body size, tv markets, and geographic fit. Take a couple of these and App St + Marshall for performance and you got yourself a decent league. U-LA-LA is a non-starter.
The best programs worth "investing" in:
- UAB
- FAU
- FIU
- GA ST
- UTSA
- Charlotte
- CO ST
- ODU
