Hmm, I hope you told that to espn. From what I hear, they wouldn’t mind rebuilding the AAC at the expense of CBS/Fox.

ESPN doesn't care about CBS/Fox. ESPN cares about ESPN. Since they can't own all of college football, they are more than satisfied with having control of the SEC and the CFP.

Outside of that, it doesn't matter if they fill their slots with Memphis, Cinci, UCF, or USF. It's pretty much all the same to them once you get past LSU vs Alabama. People arguing over viewership numbers that are peanuts like 900k or 1.2 mil. ULM, USM, SMU...none of that matters to ESPN. They're not bending over backward for anyone and they're certainly not interested in debating Marshall vs SDSU vs CSU vs App State etc. They'll talk to Aresco, give him his 4 mil/school deal, and it won't matter which 2 or 4 schools he adds. It could be Coastal for all we know. They don't care as much as the individual fans think they do.

What I find hilarious is you actually believe this.

If you thin for half a second that espn, the most aggressive blood sucking television entity of all time, doesn’t care about screwing their competition… well then I will refer you to the last 30 years.

lol

The AAC couldn’t get CSU or Boise before they lost their 3 best teams.
Why would they be able to get them now?

It’s delusional.

That’s not true. We wouldn’t offer CSU without Boise back then. It was a Boise first and then CSU if they accepted.

That’s changed. We would take CSU now without Boise… and from what I have heard, we haven’t gotten a “No”. They are listening and monitoring.

Here’s the thing. Boise gets a sweetheart deal where they get an extra $1.8 million. CSU is barely getting $4.5 million and their tv slots have not been great.
If the AAC can land the right teams, our deal won’t go down. So what’s the difference to them? Flying east compared to west and making $2.5 million a year more, getting more games on tv and better time slots.

Nobody on here can say whether they will or won’t go but I have heard they are indeed listening. We’re gonna push hard for them and Air Force… and I have no idea how it’s gonna play out.

Hell, from what I’ve heard even army hasn’t said no and normally they give us the quick “we appreciate it but no thanks”. This is an unprecedented time. Everyone is listening.
I wanna know how you heard something when the first time Aresco has talked to any team from the MWC since the news of AAC teams leaving was today? And no MWC school is going to the AAC.

Outside of grabbing the top CFB teams and creating their own league, it hardly matters.

If you think Colorado State or App State makes a difference to ESPN, you are mistaken.

thats not reality.. the aac turned down boise 5 months ago... who wants a full membership.. this has been documented

the aac turned them down because the aac only wanted a fooball only invite, all sports increased the travel expecnses too much

boise and sdsu wanted the aac in 2012... boie left because we refused to match their sweetheart deal... and sdsu left solely and only because they had no worth travel partner...sdsu is still part of the aac as apartial member

RE: The easy answer. AAC MWC merger
to me that path to raiding te MWC doesnt even start with boise.. but everyone else

sdsu, colorado st, fresno, unlv, nevada, unlv, new mexico those type of teams ... here is the plain truth, the MWC is what the MWC is, it will be nothing more, everyone in the MWC knows this.. it doesnt even try to be great. They openly acknowledge they have no intention of competing with the p5, and just wish to be the best g5

the realignment door is closing, not a single one of those teams is projected to make it in with the big boys. offer them "trying something new" .. offer them eastern exposure.. let any of them know that if they come to the aac and win at a high level, their chances at p5 drastically increases, which is true. gamble on themselves ...boise, memphis, usf and smu are all rumored to be next in line, join a conference with them and show you are better

and then gamble on the conference, if the mwc and aac stay as they are, they are forever set in stone as the have nots, especially after future raids..those left behind are doomed, make a conference that atleast has a chance. this also the only realistic chance for a great tv deal for mwc teams...
make a super conference now with 14-16, that could still be seen as a power even if they lost 2-4 more .. a conference that can backfill nationally.. app state we cant add today, they are a risk, but app state in 6 years could be doing 35k attendance a solid refill team...north dakota st is too FCS-ish for any major conference now but in 5 years as a backfill mwc team who knows

this is the best realsitic future for all the projected have not in the aac/mwc..especially when most of the have nots are in the MWC.. i thnk some in the MWC will buy that message... and after 1 or 2 take it, the rest will follow out of fear of being left behind

That was always the most attractive aspect of Colorado St as a potential replacement for UConn----they could be a lever to open the door to a wider western expansion in the future.

No Mr SDSU I don’t lack knowledge of the MWC. Nobody gives two craps (can’t believe I cant say **** on here) that Nevada has been better at football than UNLV. Their gonna look at the MASSIVE DMA different and then immediately not give a crap. Then they’ll look at the brand new stadium which is ******* awesome, compared to that crap box in Reno. Neither are great, but one is in Las Vegas and the other in Reno. That decision got real easy real quick.
Add in there’s a bowl game in Las Vegas and there isn’t one in Reno.

But ya, let take Reno who’s been mediocre and brings no value over UNLV who has sucked but actually has something to build off of.

I apologize for triggering you, I didn't mean to. Just pointing out that adding a school (UNLV) in a descent market where they have no following (or success) may not mean as much as adding a team in a smaller market where they do have following and success. Hell, we in the MWC hope that UNLV will at least get their BB program back off the deck and hope that they can finally field a decent football team. Right now, Vegas has added some pro teams (like the Raiders) so competition for fan support is real and extensive.

Anyway, I don't see you taking anyone from the MWC. Just tell me what would make it attractive to a MWC team to go to a conference that just lost its three best programs, Houston, Cincinnati or UCF have left? The question isn't meant as an insult, just tell me what the remnants of your conference would make it attractive of my school, SDSU, to join?

Guess you are ignoring my post before showing you that looking at the last five years seven of the eight AAC schools would be in top 12 in a merger with the 12 MWC schools. So I guess that and maybe more tv money wouldn’t be attractive to SDSU according to you.

Yep, can you link to that post?

Here is the Last Five Years avg Massey Rankings for the remaining AAC schools and the MWC schools.
1.Boise MWC 26.2
2. Memphis AAC 39
3. SDSU MWC 51.6
4. Air Force MWC 62.4
5. Navy AAC 64
6. Temple AAC 66
7. SMU AAC 66.4
8. Wyoming MWC 71.6
9. South Florida AAC 72.4
10. Tulsa AAC 73.8
11. Fresno MWC 74.4
12. Tulane AAC 75.8
13. Utah State MWC 80.4
14. Nevada MWC 83.4
15. Hawaii MWC 84.6
16. Colorado State MWC 94
17. San Jose St MWC 95
18. New Mexico MWC 105
19. East Carolina AAC 109
20. UNLV MWC 111.2
Notice that the 8 AAC schools are all in top 12 except for ECU. So even after losing those three AAC stacks pretty well vs MWC.

That's nice, but tell me, why would any MWC school move to the AAC? Three of the four best schools you rate the highest here are all on the East Coast. Makes logistics rather hard, don't you think.

For us, adding Memphis, SMU and Wichita St (BB Only) and Navy (Football only) makes some sense. Memphis may be on the radar for a later B12 addition, however. So, the MWC adds Gonzaga (paired with Hawaii) and Wichita (paired with Navy) or SMU and call it a day.

That makes an argument for MWC teams not wanting to move, but doesn’t make an argument for SMU or Wichita relegating themselves.

This is what I'm thinking as well...

We work this stuff out on message boards, but in reality there is no smoke filled room where all these players get together and do whats logical. I wish there were... then all the schools that SHOULD be in a power conference would be in... and all the 'hangers on' that should NOT would be out. Re work the whole damn landscape. It's too arbitrary and subject to a domino effect. Ruining college football.

I loved this conference. Just as it was really getting good (P6 was WORKING)... poof its gone. This history will repeat over and over until there is a P4 that separates. Thats why I'm not getting too invested this round. Really does not matter.

Yeah, the MWC has never anticipated becoming a P5 conference, why should they? On that point, why did the AAC feel they could become a power conference? I saw on here how y'all expected to raid the B12 of their best teams and wondered why you thought that was plausible. Big fish swallow small fish in nature. The B12 was going to raid the best of either the AAC or the MWC to do their best to replace their huge loss of UT and OU. They chose your conference. Still, when TX and OU leave the Big 12 will no longer be a "power conference." We've gone from a P5 to a P4 at that time, and that number will shrink again in the not to distant future. The AAC is now behind the MWC in terms of quality for both football and BB. Yeah, that is hard to accept for you, I understand.

No, the MWC dosen't need to add AAC teams to be the 6th best conference. We attained that by default. You can backfill with other schools but you aren't going to replace Houston, Cincinnati, or UCF with anything available. If you think the AAC ore even had the possibility of becoming a "Power" conference you have been dreaming even before getting raided.

Would we consider adding some AAC schools? Sure. Why not? It really comes down to dollars and cents for that process however, both for the conference as for the school looking to to leave theirs. As I've said before Navy, Memphis, SMU and Witchita would be the ones I would prefer.

there are alot of assumptions by you with no grounds

1) the idea of power 5 to power 4 is message board shenanigans.. there has been absolutely no indication the big 12 will lose autonomy status...it will almost be certain the big 12 will still be viewed as a power conference after texas and ou leave... the worst case is just "the weakest p5", like what the old big east after the first raids was from 05-012
-- what besides message board fan take is your reasoning for the big 12 losing its power status???

2) the aac behind the mwc is wishful thinking and a bad one at that..the average aac recruiting, and budget of the leftovers still drastically outsizes the mwc average...
this is EXACTLY like how mwc fans were saying they were better than the aac in 2012, when the aac lost so many members (including the perceived king Lousiville) and got back bosie and sdsu...which was a fun 1.5 year fantasy till the aac rebalanced which will happen again
.. example: if you put these teams in a conference and they had these respective records: alabama (3-0), ohio state (2-1), clemson (1-2), goergia (0-3). if you took away the top 2 of that league and only left the 1-2 team, and 0-3 team you could argue that the league is no longer good (despite the bottom 2 teams being elite recruiting teams)... but after "rebalancing" in 3 years ohio state will be known as the new 3-0 team and gerogia the new 2-1 and be seen as great again

the aac will rebalance itself... the aac leftovers drastically outrecruits the mwc, you are not by default better.. that is short-sighted thinking..

-----------------------------

you missed the point, the aac strived to be like a power conference and drastically grew..
the mwc accepts is place as a second class citizen, the aac never did ... the aac said we might not have as much as the p5 but we arent 2nd class

we will invest like p5, recruit like p5, gain revenue like p5, and we will get to a point where we can win a title like the power5...over the last 5 years the gap between the aac and the p5 drastically shrunk (before raid)... but drastically widened for all the other g4 including te mwc

you are willing to accept your place and a second class citizen, but someone's administration will want more... likely your administration...as sdsu was one of the biggest advocates for the aac vision before leaving ... the trajectory of the aac and mwc was obviously heading in different directions and someone in the mwc could at least be interested in trying something new... there are quotes from mwc teams saying they should leave the mwc from people in power (boise)

You make a post about how small fish don’t eat big fish then discuss which big fish the small fish should eat.

I beg to differ.

All comes down to dollars and cents. Per the deal language, MWC teams not named Boise get 3.75m per year. Assuming ESPN blesses adds without changing payouts(otherwise we wouldn’t add them), AAC teams get 6.94m. Is the travel worth the additional 3.2m? Those teams would have to decide.

I do thank, it's just different than the way you think... If the AAC takes the top 8 MW schools and puts them in the same Division.. Riddle me this, how does that change travel from what it is now?.

Don't worry about it, it will take forever to put it in terms that you will understand.

How would it affect logistics? There would be an East Division and a West Division. The MWC in the west division would be in a 14 team conference 6 MWC teams with Navy/ Wichita State and would have two cross divisional conferences. So travel east would be minimal. But you would still get a higher payout, more exposure and the Championship game would be more attractive for tv value.
