If Georgia State were to remain and we added the rumored 4 (JMU, Marshall, ODU, Southern Miss) or if Georgia State were to exit and we filled that open spot with a UTSA, assuming they don't get an AAC invite, and then the other 4 is it time to choose a name that reflects a new identity? (This isn't a realignment thread about who joins though, just stating 2 options listed prominently on the board)
I know conferences wouldn't usually do that but would the AAC be viewed different if they kept the Big East name rather than rebranding as the AAC? Many of them seem to think so. The Big East name is definitely more recognizable.
I like the name Sun Belt, the abbreviation SBC, and our new logo a lot. I just wonder if a new name considering how much membership has changed over the years would make the conference not feel so low on the totem pole? Winning has slowly increased perception but would that new name help?
Remember the old saying that went something like this . . . A rose by any other name is, well, it's a Rose!
It's tradition that a conference doesn't change its name, even when it no longer has relevancy. If they ever did though, just an FYI to not include a number as part of the name...

I think it's fine. Keeping it gives it a legacy and people can see how far it's come from the entry-level FCS conference to a legit G5 threat.
The recent logo change was nice and simplified and looks a lot more professional than the AAC or CUSA's IMO (and a lot less generic looking). It's actually on par with a P5 conference in terms of look, style and simplicity..I think it's a good fit.
I think the brand is fine, I think the conferences needs a few things like a better production/marketing team that they can hire and create some compelling promotional spots showing how we are the best P5 school, and finding some theme, catchphrase or slogan that can be used across the conference to promote it (Or just slang us as "The 'Belt" and use that moniker...which most of the people on here and in their respective team sites already do) to the point that The 'Belt is a household name in NCAA sports and why the casual sports fan should care about it and its teams. Another thing we need is some help from the media side. SiriusXM (notably Mark Packer) does give the conference some love but we need other news outlets to put more of a spotlight on the conference teams on their games outside of potential upset alerts. Coastal's success has their ear, so if we can get App, Louisiana, stAte, and a few other of the upper teams to start making some noise, and even better get ranked, that'll go a long way. If we can at least get as much of a chunck of the conversation that CUSA gets, that right there would be an improvement.
Also if we were to rebrand, we would still be getting called "the former Sun Belt Conference" for the foreseeable future...hell they keep calling the FCS the "former I-AA" and that change happened 15 years ago.
So I say keep it, and build on it to portray it as a success story and no longer a bottom feeder. Especially if we get 2-4 of these teams we've been talking about.

My friend do I have some info for you.
Come on man, dish. I'm on pins and needles over here.
The Sunbelt is now one of the best G5 leagues. But the name is holding us back. Sunbelt has been know for new FBS team starting up but its not that anymore!
It should have happen when App and Ga southern joined the league.
We have a American Conference lets be the "National Conference"
I wouldn’t change it now, as the brand has greatly improved, but if we were to have changed in 2013, The National would’ve been a strong name.

The BB schools kept the Big East name. The football schools had to change the name.
