RE: Conference Realignment
Toledo has at minimum 5 MAC East titles over the past decade if that was our division. We beat BG every year they were good. UB and Ohio would have competed a couple times. The West is much more competitive and why Toledo fans love it and hate it. Also WMU and UT feel similar in amount of care about their fb programs so Id miss them. Contrarily Toledo never plays Miami, so the East could be a change of pace worth embracing for that reason. Having UT and BG in seperate divisions leaves a possibility for a MACC rematch, so there isnt exactly desire to pair up with em. We play em anyways.

Dear Marshall. Your MACtion hate should be with November Midweek. The SBC is September and October mainly. Also we dont get paid by ESPN unless we do it. If only the conference was good, those games draw well on TV. Toledo vs. NIU in 2012, 2013, 2015. Toledo vs. BGSU in 2015. Among a bunch of others had over 600k to 1.2 million viewers. And gamblers do pay attention to us. Its the only game on and nationally theres quite a bit of buzz. Sometimes for nottop10 reasons, but still.

I'm not saying you would or even should, but I wouldn't support us going back to the MAC unless we had some sort of special deal where we played at most 1 home game on a Tues/Weds night. Away games are fine I suppose if need be, although part of the reason to go back to the MAC is the close road games we could travel to like we used to. Playing on Tues/Weds nights would limit our ability to travel to away games.

I honestly wish the top teams in the MAC would leave and form a new conference with Marshall and CUSA East. Now that would be awesome. Either way, lots of respect for MAC sports and miss our days in the conference. Sometimes wish we had just stayed, but I think the Tues/Weds games were a big factor then and still are today.

I'm not hating...if you guys enjoy it then keep on keeping on....just not for me, or for Marshall. I only brought it up as I saw Marshall mentioned in this thread. I don't think we would ever come back to the MAC if we were forced to play countless Tues/Weds games.

Bring in WKU/MTSU/JMU/ along with you guys, then a possible North-South division could be set up... A few of the present MAC schools would probably have to drop down to FCS level to make it happen though ...04-cheers

I won't argue that the midweek games have no effect on attendance but if we're honest with ourselves attendance usually sucked on November Saturdays anyway.

Not false, but very misleading as several schools have multiple weekday games. Coastal Carolina only has 6 games on Saturdays, 1 on a Wednesday, 3 on Thursdays and 2 on Fridays; App. State and ULL also have 4 midweek games.

2 home games midweek is just atrocious and to add to that, you can't travel to the 2 weeknight road games without taking a couple days off of work.

Yes, App State has 2 midweek home games and 2 midweek away games, very much like a MACtion schedule. Marshall would probably have the brand power to have a similar schedule.

Of course, if App State is having a good year, they are going to get a bigger turnout for November Saturday home games than if they were located in the Great Lakes.

Exactly, for anybody driving a few hours you need to take off 2 days of work to swing it, it screws up the whole work week. Who wants to take off Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday to travel out of town to a game to then get back to work on Thursday or Friday?

Yeah, but they would struggle for a TV audience going up against the culmination of Power 5 Conference schedules and rivals on CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN, and Fox all day and night while their game gets shoved to a noon kickoff off on ESPN+.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other ... they already would have had that TV audience in their midweek games in September/October.

I don't believe Marshall and Appalachian State would've captured 1 million+ viewers if their game had been on Saturday. I can't prove it definitively, but they were basically the only game on Thursday with zero competition for casual college football fans.

Yes, as I said ... rather than getting the larger audience in midweek games in November, they are getting the larger audience in midweek games in September or October. The idea that playing Saturdays in November is some kind of net loss in access to TV audience is ignoring the midweek games played earlier in the season.

An even further gripe with MACtion is if there are 3 nationally televised games on, one game gets pused to ESPN+ and thats unnacceptable. Akron sadly shouldnt get many midweek games if they dont have a chance at viewers. Wagon Wheel sure... vs. CMU? meh. This year Toledo ends the season on a Saturday vs. Akron, and for both parties that makes the most sense.

Except that is very much the deal ... to get the assured game on ESPN2, the MAC schedules two games, ESPN picks the one they prefer, and the other only gets on ESPNU if ESPN thinks it will rate compared to whatever else it has available.

In weeks with two weeknight MACtion slots, there are four games in the weekly inventory that have to be allocated to MACtion.

And only the game on ESPN2 might make the game worth it. Nobody has ESPNU, and only MAC fans will watch the game on ESPN+

I personally dont know a single person with a cable package that doesnt have ESPNU. And thats been the case since 2013 or so. Ive had Buckeye Cable, ATT, Direct Tv, and now have HULU (60 channels) and all have ESPNU. YoutubeTV has it too.

I don't have it. I have ESPN and ESPN2 but not ESPNU. I have Comcast as does pretty much everyone in my area that has cable.

Also, if you look at the TV ratings for ESPNU games, they suck, regardless of who is playing.

I get that with the weather and stuff you all have up there, but we don't have that problem. We still have 25k+ in November. Tues/Weds would be less than 20k...plus you lose season ticket sales.
