For those that don't know, BYU already has a dedicated Tier 3 network. It mostly has other shows (heartwarming former shows originally on Canadian, U.S. and British channels, dedicated religious shows, BYU convocations and really really stupid comedy sketch shows), but at 11:00 a.m. (Central time) M-F, it has BYU SportsNation, which is dedicated to BYU sports. It's hosted by Spencer Linton and Jarom Jordan (usually) and they are the ultimate homers - young guys who think about and talk incessantly about BYU sports 24/7. Unlike the LHN, which is staid and boring and which, for nearly 10 years, has not cared one whit about the Big 12, BYU SN has, for the last week or so, been covering the Big 12 "religiously" and all very favorably. I think that'll continue (at least for awhile), so it's worth it for Big 12 fans to watch.

Given their history, they'll turn on us at some point (in the WAC, it was 2 years; in the MWC, it was 5-6 years) and turn into whiners and complainers, but until then, it'll be a BYU/Big 12 dedicated show.

They also cover tons of BYU sports live, mostly basketball but including women's volleyball etc...

For awhile, especially during this realignment period, I'll watch it and summarize Big 12 stuff. If it turns into LHN-like crap, I'll stop.

RE: BYUtv
The show started with a celebration of "Big 12 Friday" and a salute to TCU ("Hi, we're back") and a lot of stuff about how it took exactly 51 days since UT/OU's announcement. "All BYU fans will remember where they were today;" it's a historic validation;" "looking forward to a conference context, a conference chase." They mentioned reactions from other schools; especially Baylor (the defending national champ) and the official conference statement.

They then covered the sports in the Big 12 (not volleyball) and they don't have equestrian and men's soccer. They talked about how they might add non-revenue sports. They already rank as #1 in the Director's Cup in the conference (based on last year and not counting UT). Then, local coverage with quotes from Holmoe (their AD) and Coach Sitaki. The show will be 2 hours today.

Then, a lot of history of BYU, starting with LaVell Edwards' hire in 1972... Blah blah blah. They're going to cover the press conference in a few minutes.

Best conference in basketball...

It's an emotional day... Remembering all former BYU players who worked to make this day happen...

A leap to the next level... Likely to be 2023.

Looking forward to playing KU in basketball (and Baylor). Compares them to Gonzaga...

Looking forward to the new rivalries - especially TCU.

Taking credit for Gonzaga's success...

Monumental exciting day...

RE: BYUtv
A shockwave unlike any other for the BYU athletic program... Press conference next.

Mountain America Credit Union gets top billing with a logo behind the speakers.

A Tech dweeb provides (actually Lawrence Schovanic, the university president) the official welcome...

Bowlsby (he's got bigger jowls than I ever thought...)... Sucks up to Chancellor Worthen and AD Holmoe. BYU's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Everyone there is trustworthy...

Worthen. Commitment to excellence. Full realization of the human potential. Thanks to the WCC. The 2016 process helped speed this process up. Sucks up to Holmoe. Almost gets teary-eyed...

Holmoe. Thrilled. The journey continues... Churchillian reference to blood, sweat and tears of thousands of Cougar Nation...

Media questions. It's not all about Holmoe but he gives his biography anyway...Financial situation will remain good in changing environment...BYU joining in 2023 means 2 years in existing deals...BYU has to unwind some contracts but has clauses in deals dealing with that...process was easy because these are the best 4 available...very united board...no Sunday play means not scheduling BYU on Sunday...a summary of BYU as independent...NIL...CFP in flux but certainty of expansion...all invitees high quality football programs...Bowlsby going on and on about CFP without saying much...hoops tourney will be in KC in 2025...hoops will be #1 or #2...Bowlsby and Schovanic leave...

Bowlsby now on live with Spencer and Jarom...Big 12 crowds are loud...Bowlsby avoids question on 8 or 9 conference games...divisions are likely in football...lots of details need to be ironed out...2016 process helped speed up this process...BYU at top of list had there had been actual expansion in 2016...BYU all sports but football only considered...BYU's revenue payout won't be a full portion in first 2 years...probably about 50%.

Holmoe on. Spencer is overwhelmingly emotional. Holmoe mentions tennis players! 2016 process helped...chaos yields results...2022 heavily considered...wants to be a great partner...claims great partnership in WCC but (wisely) doesn't claim it for MWC...sucks up to ESPN...open vision as to streaming in future...BYUtv can be beneficial to Big 12...Holmoe saved Big 12 announcement until Spencer got healthy from COVID...

Mark Pope (basketball coach). The Big 12 is terrifying. Best top-to-bottom conference in the country. Overwhelming. Helps recruiting...helps scheduling...sucks up to WCC...sucks up to fans...screams as he leaves...

Kalani Sitake will wind it up. Thankful and appreciative. Sucks up to fans...focus on Utah...focus on Utah...focus on Utah...

That's about it. Dennis Pitta interview gets bumped. BYU seems excited about the whole thing.

Jared did you listen to Bowlsby say some of BYU’s schedule games might count as league games. Also BYU might be in before the other 3 according to Bowlsby.

Well according Holmoe it is a done deal on BYUs side. The problem is tier 3 is owned by each school so it can’t infringe upon their rights.

The other thing if we choose to make a B12 network it is all set with BYUtv.

BYUtv studios is state of the art. A B12 network could easily rent the space and equipment, for I’m sure dirt cheap. We would just have to sell the content or stream it all to an app or both.

So many questions. No, I can't post a link because I left for work after it was over (and, in any event I was crying because Brian's Song about Brian Piccolo was shown immediately thereafter). (Note to BYUtv - Piccolo went to Wake Forest and Rudy went to Notre Dame - they have NO ties to BYU). No, there was no mention or question about BYU counting other games as league games. They'll be joining in 2023. Other schools will be joining then or no later than a year afterwards. Yes, Mark Pope screamed as he left. Yes, Holmoe mentioned making an offer to Bowlsby about BYUTV and will be sharing ideas about BYUtv as a Big 12 resource and said he would be following up soon. Yes, the Dennis Pitta interview got bumped (again).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of early rounds of the women’s B12 basketball tournament on BYUtv this year. They started to do some of this for the WCC before we began play. It depends on what BYUtv has going on. They broadcast both men’s and women’s WCC tournament so they might not have the resources for the B12 yet.

They have the real Rudy on occasionally. You need to rewatch the Jared and Spencer interview with Bowlsby. Just briefly he mentioned something with BYUs conference schedule in year one only. I watch it like 5 times to make sure I heard it right. It sounds like it is just one of many options kind of comment.
