Schools that are willing to pay $100mil a year on athletics wanting away from the schools that only want/can spend $30mil a year. Unfortunately, reality shows funding doesn’t always equal success. We are in an unprecedented era where Alabama has been on top for over a decade, that is an anomaly, not the norm. Schools have risen to the top before, but only stay for 2-3 years before falling back to earth. Saban can’t coach forever, eventually he will retire, when he does, I believe the normalcy will return of different teams competing, instead of the same teams every year.
Just curious on your thoughts on bama. how much longer do you think Saban will be at there? Who do you think they’ll replace him with? An internal coach or someone like dabo? I still think that Napier is doing what he can to get there, but it’s probably a long way off so who knows how it will shake out.

I think the Saban replacement is a moving target. A couple years ago, easily Dabo is the guy, just call him home. I think now, Napier would be high on the list, his name gets thrown around in these parts quite a bit. But if he goes another 3 years, it could change again. In the past Jimbo Fisher would have got a look, but I think he has also cooled in the Bama ranks. Kiffen have some really successful years at Ole Miss, he could move up the list.

Saban is 69, looks better then most 60 year olds. He’s a healthy guy, if he wants he could go another 5 years pretty easy. Of course that all depends on his health staying good.
Yep…agree with allow your post. Personally I think saban is at least 5 years away from retiring. Unless something in the nfl catches his eye?

As for Coach Napier, who knows where he will be in 3-4 years, much less 5+. The big salary increase for him and his staff will go a long way in keeping him with us for a while. Every night I hope and pray that 1) he is able to achieve all of his goals at UL, and 2) that he stays with us 4-5 years. It’s a dream but who can blame us. Either way, it is surely great times in Cajun Nation, I tell you

Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden both coaches into their 80’s, so who knows how long he may actually coach.

Ludicrous! The Big 12 isn't dead with nearly $170 million dollars in exit fees to be collected, basketball tourney credits, and monies from their current TV deal. And if the current CFP format is agreed upon they would still be able to get a team in. The AAC does stick together though because the Big 12 will not invite teams from that conference (Cincy being the exception). They'll invite BYU and Boise to get to 10 and sit tight. The demise of the Big 12 is being greatly exaggerated.

The Big 12 still has a lot more to offer than the AAC.

As of right now, OU/UT are staying in conference until 2025, so it will only be exit fees being paid. The remaining Big XII schools need to go ahead and get someone added to join before OU/UT leave so people will associate new members with the old ones. Perception will keep them bigger then they are.

If the PAC 12 is about to get raided of 4/6 members to the B1G, the remaining Big 12 needs to just combine with the PAC, become the Big PAC, everyone else stays as they are.

I don't think its possible Tech gets any consideration. They don't like us to begin with, and even if they did. I don't see ULM or ULL voting to accept them.

Well I agree that adding the laturds is a longshot, as there are other teams that bring much more value and better travel, much better destination (ever been to ruston?) plus just no body likes those mofos, but I’m not so sure it would ever happen. If it did and I can’t speak for ULM but I don’t think Dr’s Savoie or Maggard would veto it. It would almost be worth it to just see them refer to us correctly from an official standpoint lol.

The only way I'd accept LaTech would be as a replacement for ULM or Louisiana. Should one of those schools leave the SBC then LaTech should be under consideration to make the move up.

Couldn't disagree more. If Tech wanted to come to the Sun Belt (which they don't), Louisiana and ULM wouldn't stand in their way. They would vote yes.

I agree that neither UL or ULM would vote no. If for no other reason than to have them call us Louisiana lol.
But yeah they prob would rather rot to death in a terrible conf than try to save themselves. That’d also be fun to continue to see.

I'm not sure any CUSA team wants in the Belt because they have a case of "perception" high. They say they are peers with the AAC schools but those schools continually leave them behind. I get that Troy is no academic powerhouse and that is why most people say they wouldn't join so it is what it is. I like the Belt the way it is and don't want a school with an ego issue to join at all. If USM and Marshall (or one of the two) decided not to join I'd rather dip back into FCS to bring up a good football brand again, or stay at 10 teams. Just because someone is FBS doesn't make them a strong add and just because someone is FCS doesn't make them a weak one.

The Big X would only take 2 from the PAC; USC and UCLA.

The obvious next step is a PAC-Big XII merger, if the PAC is willing to be in a conference with Baylor and TCU or the Big XII is willing to desert them.

What about Baylor and TCU would be unwanted by the PAC??? California has already infiltrated Texas, it only makes sense they merge. 01-wingedeagle

FCS off hand that could something to the conference, UTC(but they got to add baseball), JXST, good fan base, a lot of recent facility uogrades, even SHSU is now the defending FCS champions, has over 20k students and has been playing football for over 100 years. That’s 3 right off the top of my head that I think would hold value in our little ol conference.

I think SHSU and JSU would pluck 2 of the better FCS teams within our footprint, which I’m aware is a stretch - and most fans wouldn’t want. There’s still a few gems out there though. SHSU would need to improve that football stadium though obviously.

Expansion looks like it would be pretty easy on the SHSU stadium. They will be FBS, or whatever is left of FBS, in the next 5 years anyway when the WAC makes its move up. Might as well get them on our side now.

Let's say the SBC doesn't lose any members.

What two schools add enough to the SBC that makes it worth dividing shares by 12 instead of 10.

I know of none.

Among schools who might actually come, UAB and Marshall. Possibly USM because of their strong support in the Gulf Coast from Pensacola to New Orleans.

What two schools add enough to the SBC that makes it worth dividing shares by 12 instead of 10.

I know of none.

Among schools who might actually come, UAB and Marshall.

I think you also have to add USM in that list as well.

For us, UAb or USM, along with Troy should help fill our stadium At least once a year, which in turn helps season ticket sells, creates demand, also creates more interest. Even splitting the current media shares, would be offset by potential ticket revenue and media coverage. Marshall adds a name that more then casual college fans recognize and will also help sell those tickets.
