I agree with Proff. It's all about WHIP and momentum when pitching. Keep the free passes down even if you give up a hit because you can get a grounder plus you gain momentum when you pitch like that. Great job guys! I can live with getting hit but can't live with free passes so much.

Hawks showed a little offensive life today. They need to continue to improve in this area as the defense and pitching has been good overall.

Great to get game 1!!!

Cougars on the board 1-0. A bizarre play occurred where the Hawks had a runner, Trotter Harlan, dead to rights on a pickoff but somehow missed tagging him...twice. Once by Brandenburg and then again when he slid under the throw. The umpires conferred and determined Harlan was indeed safe. He then scored on a base hit shortly thereafter.

2-1 Charleston in the bottom of the 3rd. Hawks barely escape damage from the Cougars in the top of the inning, as they left runners at 2nd & 3rd. 8 hits for the Cougars today.

And a lot of them hard hit, unfortunately. Just not on his best game right now. The bullpen was already getting loose after the 2nd inning. But on the bright side at least the Cougars haven't cashed in on most of those hits on the scoreboard.

Still 2-1 Charleston, bottom 4th. Hawks have a runner in scoring position with 1 out, following a leadoff single by Brandenburg and a SAC bunt by Marsh.

RBI triple Lifrieri ties it 2-2! Perfectly hit to the opposite field down the RF line.

And the Hawks take the lead on an RBI groundout by Croom. 3-2!

Back to back base hits very quickly even up the hit count (both teams now with 8), but Howell flies out to end the inning.
