Baseball: vs. Charleston (May 14-16)
Lost opportunity there with runners on the corners and none out not to push the lead further.

Smith with 5 straight scoreless innings. After the way he started it was hard to see it go this way, but I'm very glad to be wrong!
3-2 Hawks, bottom 6th.

Yes, it was surprising Kip wasn't asked to bunt there!

Frustrating there. 1st & 3rd with 1 out, and Brandenburg grounds into a double play on the 1st pitch.
Charleston leads 5-3 in the 8th.

RBI single on a bunt makes it 6-3 Cougars.

Despite today's win - we need tomorrow's game badly. It would put us 2 games up on charleston- a loss & we are tied again. Go Hawks - take advantage of this opportunity!

RE: Baseball: vs. Charleston (May 14-16)
That was without a doubt the most insane game I’ve seen in a long time, maybe ever, across any sport. I have no words available at the moment, and my lack of posts about the game in those last few innings reflect that!
All I’ll say for now is this: What a bone-headed play by their 1B in the 8th to throw home on the play that netted us 2 runs, when he should have just stepped on 1st. Unbelievable!

I agree. Tomorrow's game will likely determine if we win the South or not, assuming we don't play @JMU next week
If we win tomorrow, we will be 13-8 with a % of .619
Charleston and Elon play each other next week
If Charleston sweeps next week they will be 14-10 with a % of .583
If Elon sweeps next week they will be 11-7 with a % of .611
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I see it, we get the divison and the #2 seed tomorrow if we win

RE: Baseball: vs. Charleston (May 14-16)
If we lose tomorrow we will be 12-9 with a % of .571
Here are the 4 possible outcomes at that point
Charleston sweep of Elon: 15-9 with a % of .624 - Charleston wins
Charleston 2-1 of Elon: 14-10 with a % of .583 - Charleston wins
Charleston 1-2 of Elon: 13-11 with a % of .542 - UNCW wins as ELON would be 10-8 with a % of .556
Charleston 0-3 of Elon: 12-12 with a % of .500 - Elon wins as Elon would be 11-7 with a % of .611
So if we don't win tomorrow we better hope and pray we can go to JMU next week and play and win or else our only shot is Elon taking 2 and ONLY 2 in Charleston next week

It is what it is at this point. Hawks just need to go out and have a championship mentality like they have had on Sunday. If they do it, great, if not , it’s okay too as long as they play hard and play together as a team. Regardless of what happens, they really did improve towards the end and it has been good to see.

RE: Baseball: vs. Charleston (May 14-16)
Keep in mind Coach Hood said earlier in the week that rescheduling the JMU series is unlikely at this point. I doubt that will change based on the result of this series. So, yes, let’s absolutely take the South today!
But even if we don’t, we at least locked up our tournament spot and have a lot of momentum behind us. I love our chances of winning the league regardless. I just love those chances even more with the 1st round bye. Considering where we were in the standings 2-3 weeks ago that’s a pretty incredible turnaround.

RE: Baseball: vs. Charleston (May 14-16)
Cougars get 2 on to start the game. But Gesell limits the damage to 1 run thanks to a pop up to Croom (and a great throw home to hold the runner), followed by a SAC fly and another infield pop up to Weiss. Could have been much worse!
1-0 Cougars, bottom 1st.

Solo HR to lead off the inning makes it 2-1 Cougars.
Gonna be another wild day from the looks of it so far!

RE: Baseball: vs. Charleston (May 14-16)
Cougars tack on a run for the 3rd straight inning, on a SAC fly. Charleston already has 5 hits off Gesell.
3-1 Charleston, bottom 3rd.
