Another crucial series is coming up this weekend, as the Hawks host James Madison and try to improve their positioning in the CAA South Division. All 3 games will be aired on FloSports and local ESPN AM 630 radio.

While we are 5th overall in the league standings, and thus in position to grab one of the 6 tournament spots, the goal at this point is to win the South Division. A move from 4th to 1st is certainly possible this week provided we pull off a sweep.

In a strange bit of scheduling in the South, Elon will be hosting two non-DI games (Friday/Saturday, opponent TBD on the schedule) followed by a road game @ Wake Forest on Sunday. This short road trip will essentially be a makeup game, as the 2 teams were scheduled to face off back on March 9th, @ Elon, but the game was postponed. In the end, the Phoenix will end up having faced the Demon Deacons twice as they look to avenge a 4-2 loss at home from March 23rd.

In the North, where there is 1 less team than the South, 4-game series will be taking place this weekend between Towson-Delaware and Northeastern-Hofstra. But at the moment, it would take a miracle for any other North team to steal the top seed away from NU. The rest of the North Division teams are fighting for 2nd place in the North and, at most, 1 bid to the CAA Tournament. Thus, the focus will be entirely on what happens in the South this weekend, where as many as 5 CAA Tournament bids could be up for grabs, as well as the # 2 seed. After all, a very slim margin currently separates the top 2 South teams, Elon and Charleston, from the bottom 2, UNCW and JMU.

Baseball Preview: James Madison

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW hosts James Madison this weekend in another important Colonial Athletic Association series as all five teams in the South Division are within a game of first and fifth place. The series opens Friday with a 6 p.m. start at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks and Dukes were postponed earlier this season due to Covid Protocols within the JMU program. If the series will be made up has yet to be determined.

In looking at the CAA standings, Elon and the College of Charleston are tied for first with identical 8-7 records while William & Mary is third at 9-9. The Seahawks are fourth and the Dukes fifth with records of 7-8 and 4-5, respectively.

CofC visits William & Mary while Elon is off from conference play this weekend.

Tickets for the general public will go on sale Friday at 2 p.m.

Rough weather in the Port City today. It hailed this morning, and now heavy rain started coming down on campus moments ago.

No update on a gametime change just yet. Weather looks great tomorrow and Sunday if the teams were to choose to push today’s game into a doubleheader.

Update: A delay is likely. Reevaluation of the field conditions will take place around 5:15, shortly after which an update should be available on what the new game time will be.

The rain has stopped and the tarp is off the field. Gametime is now 7 PM for game 1 of the series.

The JMU starter tonight will be junior RHP Liam McDonnell: 1-1, 8.31 ERA, 17 K's, 13 BB's, .341 opponent BAA. This will be his 5th start of the season.

JMU has as many as 8 players unavailable tonight due to various injuries/ailments. They've only played 20 games so far this season due to COVID, despite having the fewest games on their original schedule at the start of the year among CAA teams.

Bridges bunts it poorly but is able to reach on a fielder's choice, as the defense had nowhere to go and no one covering 3rd!
