RE: Baseball: Series vs. JMU (May 7-9)
JMU has the bases loaded and 2 down, in the 7th. They had one run canceled out by a batter interference! 4-3 Hawks.

They got it done and that's all that matters Nation. Wish we could have strung a few together earlier so Noah doesn't have to do it himself. That's what this team needs. hitting thru the lineup. The pitching is very good but if guys start rolling, this team is tough to deal with. Good win!

Overall good job. We were fortunate that giving up 9 hits along with 5 walks only resulted in 3 runs from jmu. I think we were able to turn 3 or 4 double plays that helped immeasurably. The double play is truly a pitcher's best friend.
Keep it going today guys. Just one game out of first in the southern division.

RE: Baseball: Series vs. JMU (May 7-9)
Adam Smith will once again be the Saturday starter today for the Hawks, as they try to take the series.

Smith's impressive numbers on the season: 4-1, 3 Saves, 2.29 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 38 K's, 16 BB's, 39.1 Innings

Smith will be making his 4th start so far on the campaign. His last 5 outings (2 relief followed by 3 starts) have gone the following length, in chronological order:

* 4/4 vs Elon: 2.1 innings (28 pitches)
* 4/11 @ Oklahoma St: 2.2 innings (65 pitches)
* 4/17 vs UNCA: 6.0 innings (75 pitches)
* 4/25 @ Elon: 5.2 innings (96 pitches)
* 5/1 vs. W&M: 7.0 innings (91 pitches)

Clearly he's been ramping up his workload with each successive outing, in impressive fashion. In 2 of his last 3 starts, he didn't allowed a run, including just 2 hits allowed against UNCA and a 1-hit effort against W&M. Both were Seahawk victories.

Expect Smith, if effective, to go deep into today's Saturday afternoon conference tilt and continue to save the bullpen arms from an excessive workload.

Bonus info: Check out Smith's home numbers on the season:

* 4-0
* 3 Saves
* 2 Earned Runs
* 0.66 ERA
* 0.59 WHIP
* 25 K's
* 9 BB's
* 27.1 Innings.

JMU starter: Jr RHP Nick Stewart. His numbers on the season are as follows: 1-2, 9.00 ERA, 15 K's, 19 BB's, .370 BAA, 12.0 innings. This is his 5th start of the season.

We will be without Cole Weiss today, who will be missing his first game since freshman year with a minor injury.

Hawks lineup:

1. Baldwin 2B
2. Jack Howell DH
3. Suggs RF
4. Croom 3B
5. Brandenburg 1B
6. Noah Bridges CF
7. Lifrieri LF

Smith breezes through the 1st. The Hawks fail to score in the bottom of the inning despite facing 27 pitches from JMU starter Nick Stewart.

Hawks come back with a run here in the 2nd. Lifrieri lofted a double into the gap with 2 down, and Bridges followed with a hard line drive to center for an RBI single. Hawks are still batting.

4-1 Dukes, bottom 2nd.
