Serious, non sarcastic question
In 7 inning games is there a mercy rule after 5?

Yes. 15 after five. Owls lose 16-1. Glad we went to the Guadalupe Brewing Company in NB for the afternoon. Highly recommend if you’re in Comal County!

Hmmmm.

After 5 innings, SidearmStats shows the score as 16-5 -- Walsh's 3-run homer capped the Owls' 4-run, 2-out rally -- and both teams are now playing in the 6th ... and JP's broadcasting the audio.

(But the CUSTtv "Rice GameDay" video did quit after T5 (~5:50 timecode). Curfew or work-time maximum for the video crew?)

Regarding the mercy rule (including for 7-inning games), the "College Baseball" Wikipedia page says this:

Quote:A mercy rule may be in use, which terminates play when one team is ahead by 10 or more runs after seven innings (6½ innings if the home team is winning). In games that are scheduled for seven innings the rule takes effect in the fifth. This rule is not used in NCAA tournament games. Several conferences institute this rule only on Sundays or the final day of a conference series so that the visiting team can travel early. In some conferences, the mercy rule may also be used to end such games in order to start the next tournament game sooner.

You are correct. Took Live Stats a while to update.

Still glad we went to Guadalupe Brewing.

Not expecting that it will make a difference in the outcome. Apparently CUSA doesn't have the run rule for conference games except maybe getaway days.

JP: "Lights starting to come on now. I did not think we were going to need them today."

Now 20-5 ... two outs, a runner on 2nd (after an RBI single and wild pitch).

K! Yay!!

20-5 ... heading to B7.

B7:

Edwards HR!!

20-6.

And the dreaded GLARE has returned! But it's not delaying the game, as the intense reflection is shining into the Press Box, not home plate.

F8 & 6-3 groundout ends the game. For real!

Owls lose, 6-20.

Sigh.

He seems likable as a guy but he shouldn’t be coaching after this week. Too bad Leebron and JK have 0 balls to pull the trigger. Nothing will be fixed with Leebron as prez

Firing the head coach at this point in the season will do nothing but piss off the players. Makes absolutely no sense.

I see. Show me something that says our leadership cares that baseball is an absolute dumpster fire.

Pierce continues to roll at UT. Wayne should’ve stepped down and let us hire Pierce back from SHSU. We’ve sucked since he left.

Just fire him now. Hard to tell if Barton is as inept as well or the relationship between the two made Barton’s job moot. Name Janish interim coach but I’m not sure he is a real candidate for the job or not. He came in with Wayne no longer effective and Bragga keeping him seemed like a good idea. Right now what recruit would even want to consider signing.
