UTEP gets 1st commit since hiring Golding. 6'10" JC transfer Bonke Maring F/C . Not highly recruited. We will see how he works out. 12.6 ppg and 8 rpg this past season. Had offers from UTSA, New Orleans, UW Mil., etc.

One of Coach Terry's biggest criticism is that he went after JUCO players.

Now Coach Golding does the same and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Sure feels like a double standard.

Terry was criticized for not coaching up the good recruits he had and for mediocre results, period. And where in my post did I say anything about this being anywhere near as good as sliced bread.

I wasn't talking about you personally. I was just talking about the reaction from fans in general.

A lot of people criticized Terry for going the JUCO route among other things and that Golding was going to be different because he was going to coach up 4 year recruits.

Now he too is going the JUCO route.

Which juco players did Terry recruit?

Not JUCO players but transfers. Terry mostly had college transfers as opposed to high school recruits.

RE: UTEP new mbb coach - Joe Golding of ACU!
Starter Tydus Verhoeven was in the transfer portal after Terry left but Golding re-recruited him and he will return for next season. Now Golding is trying to convince Bryson Williams to leave the portal and stay with the Miners which would be quite a feat since Texas (where coach Terry went), Texas Tech, USC, Washington, Oklahoma and others have recruited him. If he stays then all 5 starters will be back.

If Golding manages to get all 5 starters back for next year then what would be your projected record?

He would have to at least have a winning season right?

I mean if Terry went .500 and he can't coach a lick......

Its true that technically Terry went .500 this season, but only if you count wins over div 3 teams.

If all 5 starters return i expect a winning season vs ooc games and winning record vs cusa schedule. I also expect the team to get past the 1st round of the conference tournament.

That is a fair expectation. I am with you on that one.

New commit for UTEP is from Ranger JC. Sharp shooting guard Jorrell Saterfield. Much needed outside rhreat.

I just heard that UTEP lost out on the Maryland recruit.

This dude better be an amazing coach because he's not looking like a good recruiter.

Well, if Golding doesn't work out, Billy Gillespie at Tarleton is already half way thru his normal tenure at any given school. Chances are Tarleton can't pay a driver to cart him around like Kentucky had to, so I'm smelling a DUI charge coming up soon. Keep your eye out for him. The man can recruit.

Impressive stats last year in JC. "Averaged a team-high 18.0 points per game in 27 games played during 2020-21 season".

Tim Floyd was at the Tech/Southern Miss. baseball game last night in Ruston. Unless he has a twin brother I'm 100% positive it was him. Good to see him enjoying retirement. It was a competitive game but unfortunately the Mustard Buzzards won 4 to 1.
