Charlotte has been one of the biggest mid-major portal winners. Musa Jallow from OSU caps it, but really liked the addition of Clyde Trapp (Clemson). Add in a 1,300-point scorer in Austin Butler & a high-upside forward in Robert Braswell, and the 49ers have clearly gotten better
clt says Charlotte should be preseason #1 in cusa next year
It is obvious that clt has not seen the results of past players from the P5 transferring to Charlotte after being busts at big time programs. Jallow is a guard who shot 5.6% from 3pt last season. In his last game he scored 3 pts in 32 minutes. He had 3 rebounds, 0 steals, and 3 TOs. What is he going to bring of value? I would rather see the scholarship go to an unproven freshman.

6'10 forward that averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds while playing an avg of 17 minutes per game at St Johns this past season. His best game was 26 points and 14 boards at Georgetown.
Watched him play a few times. Great pickup for you guys. A lot of talent.
Thanks for that insight!

Garcia will take a big jump hopefully, but Khalifa is an unknown. With Risetto going back home Charlotte will be pretty thin up front unless they get some help via transfer portal. It is not in Sanchez's nature to run small 1-5.
Excited about the Holy Cross guy and maybe the Clemson guy. The other two are wait and see for sure.

I think tonight is the deadline to declare for the transfer portal. I plan on doing a recap of the comings and goings sometime later this weekend.

Rice women have now lost Mulkey, Wiggins, Smith, and Schwartz to the transfer portal. That's 119 minutes (out of 200) and 47 points per game. CUSA WBB has been low-key decimated this offseason. Both MTSU and Rice sadly look to be in some form of rebuild mode with recent departures (assuming Rice's transfers follow through), UAB had massive struggles last year, ODU obviously had the coaching change last year and now has five transfers this year, WKU looked unscathed but suddenly had two starters transfer recently, FIU was the surprise team this year and then had four players transfer, and UTEP took a step forward only to have half the team leave.
All of a sudden, Charlotte and North Texas look to be clear favorites (they probably would have been competitive regardless of departures).
For reference: FAU lost Allen (22.4 ppg), FIU lost Nimmo (12.5 ppg) and Thomas (16.9 ppg), MTSU lost the Hayes sisters (40.5 ppg), ODU lost five including Morris (15.7 ppg), UTEP lost almost 100 minutes of production, UTSA lost Quezada (15.4 ppg) and Woods (12.6 ppg), Rice lost (probably) those above, and WKU lost Haywood and Pouye (a combined 61 minutes).

You can always look at Syracuse if you want to feel better about your situation. Unfortunately, I think this transfer rule is going to have a huge impact on the lesser known sports.

Eli Bennett is Tony Bennett's son (the UVA head coach, not the singer). He'll be a PWO.
Charlotte definitely adding a lot of players. You kind of wonder if anyone besides Young is returning (maybe Williams too). I imagine most of the other guys are being gently told their services are no longer needed. You still only get to use 13 scholarships total (unless you have some seniors playing an extra year - they won't count for the 13 total).

Charlotte had two seniors in Matos and Supica, three transfers in Shepherd, Byrd & Carrawell, and one who returned home to play professionally in Rissetto. That is a total of 6 players lost. We also have Cannon who is a senior playing an extra year.

Nice pick-up for MTSU - Cameron Johnson from Stephen F Austin. He was the 2nd leading scorer for one of the Southland Conference's best teams year in and year out. Might just be one of the better pick-ups for anyone in the conference this offseason (good for MTSU - they certainly need to upgrade their lineup).

We could get the best players available and I don't think it would matter with coach we have.

WKU offseason been non existent so far. I am sure RIck has something up his sleeves, but so far crickets. Looks like we got a committ from a 6-11 project who averaged 2 a game in JuCO, but not sure hes a scholarship player. We wont be preseason #1 this upcoming year.

CUSA won't know how to function if they can't put WKU preseason #1. The conference will probably spontaneously combust like the drummer from Spinal Tap.

RE: College basketball offseason
A couple of transfers coming into CUSA. Jairus Hamilton (6-8 F out of Maryland, 6.5ppg, 2.5rpg) is a double transfer though (BC and then Maryland), so he'll need a waiver to be eligible next year at Western Kentucky? David Green is La Tech's 4th incoming transfer, although his numbers at Hofstra (3.1 ppg, 1.7 rpg) weren't anything amazing as a 6-7 freshman there.
ETA - forgot to mention WKU for Hamilton (but I had them listed on the 1st post in this thread).

Wow. That's not good for USM. Replacing 14 pts and 7 rebounds per game won't be easy.
There are reports that Stevenson will now be returning to Southern Miss along with F Denijay Harris, who had also entered the portal.

I believe he's a solid get. UTEP also offered and I'm sure others as well.

RE: College basketball offseason
UTEP has signed 3 recruits so far:
Bonke Maring, 6'10" F/C from JC
Jorrell Saterfield, 6'4" SG from JC
Kezza Jiffa, 6'2" PG freshman from France
4 of 5 starters return with Bryson Williams as the only missing starter. Thats a big loss although not official yet.
