Wow, 59 for Towson is impressive. That's ahead of a lot of other mid-major leaders: Iona, Chattanooga, Missouri State, Toledo, Vermont, South Dakota State.

If Towson wins the CAA tourney, they will wind up with a decent seed in the NCAAs. The rest of the league wouldn't.

Lunardi today has them at #14 playing Villanova.

I think Hofstra would get a 15, and everybody else could get a 16. You, Delaware, and Charleston could get a 15 with help from upsets in other tournaments. UNCW could have to play in the First Four depending on if bad conferences have tournaments won by the best team. Elon, Northeastern, and W&M would have to play in the First Four. We should be rooting against "Iona, Chattanooga, Missouri State, Toledo, Vermont, South Dakota State" that jcohen42 said. Vermont is 68th, and the next best in the America East is New Hampshire in 232nd. South Dakota State is 71st, and the next best in the Summit League is Oral Roberts (who won two games and lost by 2 to Arkansas in the 2021 Sweet Sixteen) in 147th.

Lunardi currently has Vermont as a 13.

I disagree. Hofstra has the signature win, but doesnt have the supporting numbers especially in the NET to warrant a 15. To me everyone will be a 16 unless its Towson. I agree that Hofstra, Drexel and probably Delaware avoid the play in game and everyone else would be a paly in team. All honesty, if we are a 16 seed as a conference, I would prefer it be the play in game where there is a real chance at picking up that extra tournament credit

The AQs never go to all of the favorites. My expectation is that Towson would be a 13, Hofstra a 15, and everyone else a 16 unless a lot of teams get upset.
It's difficult to get NET rankings for past seasons, but easy to get KenPoms. Based on the 2019 seeds (i.e. the last normal season), 12 seeds were ranked 28-58, 13 seeds were ranked 73-106, 14 seeds were ranked 77-124, 15 seeds were ranked 126-161, and the highest-ranked 16 seed was ranked 163. Hofstra is a top 120 team by both NET and KenPom, so I'd be pretty surprised if they weren't a 15. It'd have to be a very chalky conference tournament season to generate a 16.

Agree.
If you're a 16 seed might as well be in the play in game where you can make a little extra money

I like when people look up rankings like you did. https://sagarin.usatoday.com/2022-2/coll...s-2021-22/ is the Sagarin, which is the most convenient place to find rankings sorted by conference. Hofstra is 129th in the Sagarin, and nine conferences don't have a team above Hofstra. That means if a bracket including Hofstra was made now, in order for Hofstra to get a 16, at least four teams with a worse Sagarin would be seeded 15 or better. Furthermore, Hofstra and the CAA are better in the NET than the Sagarin, if Hofstra beats Towson that would be a better win than other 14 to 16 seeds have a chance to get by winning their tournaments, and other 14 to 16 seeds don't have a win (Arkansas) and overtime loss (Houston) against ranked teams. I think Hofstra is more likely to get a 14 than a 16.

metsox shared a podcast with me called three guys before the game. they had coach spiker on and they talked about the portal. it's episode 361 called "mortal portal"...

spiker is such a great guy. another downside to our lack of media coverage is not getting to hear more of what he has to say. i would really enjoy hearing more from him. i didn't know he is from morgantown.

He made an interesting point about how there may not be enough slots for all these kids, given high schoolers, jucos, etc.
Verbal Commits has 1,200 players in the portal. Crazy times.

That's interesting. some players will might end up in Division II or III schools or might drop out of playing basketball altogether. Transferring is a risky proposition for a player. Some really good coaches will be able to completely rebuild their teams with transfers. I hope Coach Spiker is one who can do it.

there were a lot of good nuggets in there but i especially liked how he compared running his program to restaurants that are only open certain hours or until their food is gone. i always envy those places. everybody is so spun up about customer service these days that they're afraid to say "this is what we do...this is how we're going to do it...and go somewhere else if you don't like it". obviously you want to be friendly while you're doing it and be flexible within reason. problem is the pendulum too often swings too far towards the customer.
if he means what he says...which i believe he's genuine...then he's not coddling players which i worried about sometimes.

maybe he said that because he runs a word of mouth basketball program
you have to guess when the games are, then beg them to let you in
its like angelos pizza!

RE: caa
i read that penn state is showing interest in cam. i've been debating the +/- of heading up there. on one hand...he's in a power conference and will be on tv more. on the other hand...penn state is a dead end basketball destination. they exceeded expectations last year...but they had no expectations on them so that wasn't too hard. i could feel like the hot shot who knows all about cam except nobody cares about penn state basketball so it doesn't matter.
of course i'd be curious to see how things play out for him and would probably see him play a few times. i just question the benefits of going to a boring basketball destination and play on a bad team when you could potentially play on a good mid major team that probably has a better chance to make the tournament.

The interesting tidbit to me in that podcast was Spiker saying that Bickerstaff made his transfer decision based on NIL money. He might not have directly said it, but listen at around 25:45 - who else would he be talking about?
