Would love for a Men’s Soccer team to be added to Louisiana Athletics! Good talent in our state too.

You would be headed back to the SoCon most likely if you had not dropped soccer.

Marshall had a player a few years ago from Acadiana High School in GK Zakary Elagamy. He was stuck behind Paulo Pita and left after his Soph year.

Title IX will continue to kill men’s soccer programs.

In ten years mens soccer will be like wrestling with about 120 teams.

Sad.

If App still had soccer we would be in the Sun Belt... Not SoCon. Same with Coastal. App killing soccer killed the M Soccer in the Sun Belt.

I still think a low level D1 should field a team of "transgender males" in a women's sport and dominate just to prove how stupid this whole thing is.

What that ruling does is destroy Title IX. Now a biological male can take athletic scholarships away from a biological female, but it still count as a girl scholarship towards Title IX. Politicians are stupid.

that issue is a conundrum for the left

"we need to support women's athletics"

"we need to support men transitioning to women"

eventually those to forces will collide

Even if you had not killed soccer the Sun Belt next year would be two programs short of a compliant conference and most likely would be losing their autobid. With Howard leaving for the NEC and Central Arkansas joining the ASUN for everything that would have left only 4 schools playing soccer in Appalachian State, GA State, GA Southern and Coastal Carolina. You need 6 schools to keep your autobid in soccer.

The MAC is also in danger of losing their autobid with SIU Edwardsville leaving the MAC and joining the MVC. They only have 5 members in Akron, NIU, Bowling Green, Western Michigan and WVU.

With only 205 schools playing DI Men's soccer and most if not all schools solidly in a conference, it is hard to pull schools to a new conference.

Howard moved MSoccer for the NEC after App killed MSoccer. UCA would still be around for this season while working to find another team.

Howard would have moved anyway. They moved 6 programs to the NEC. My guess is if the MEAC collapses that they will join the NEC full time.

There are no schools or conferences for the Sun Belt to pull from:

Conferences And Number Of Playing Members Around The Sun Belt
Big South 9 schools
ASUN 7, 8 When Central Arkansas joins
CAA 7 schools
CUSA 8, 9 when Coastal Carolina joins
Horizon 11 schools
MAAC 11 schools
MVC 5, 6 when SIU Edwardsville joins
NEC 9, 10 When Howard joins
Patriot 10 schools
SoCon 7 schools
Summit 6 schools

The BE, B10 and ACC are out of the question as they are in 3 of the top 5 college soccer conferences.

There are absolutely no programs looking to move and the Sun Belt isn't strong enough to to get anyone excited enough to change conferences. So yes in a few years if not next year Appalachian State would have been looking for/in a new conference. And the one of two conferences that would have won out would have been the MAC or SoCon.

When next year comes around there will only be 1 count them 1 independent college men's soccer program in Chicago State and then no one wants anything to do with that university.

Touchy no, Truthful yes

With or Without Appy killing soccer the Sun Belt sponsoring soccer was over once Howard and Central Arkansas announced they were leaving. As I said most likely one of two things happen now after Coastal joining CUSA yesterday, either GA Southern and GA State join the MAC and save their autobid or they join the SoCon. The only other option is to join the Big South.

MAC soccer will be safe—they’ll either take the GA schools or take the soon to be independent Chicago St program that has yet to actually play. (If you’ll recall, they dropped baseball in favor of adding soccer because soccer plays less games = fewer away games = less travel expense)

RE: Coastal to the CUSA
If App restarts soccer being in the SoCon isn't a bad place while the Sun Belt figures out what to do about the sport. Either getting other members to start or finding some other school that's an associate member of another conference and bring them in.

App and GS are associate members of the SoCon already. In Wrestling and Rifle. App is also associate members of the MAC in field hockey. It happens.

Honestly LAX would probably be the next men's sport before Soccer anyway. And that would also be a SoCon membership
