They didn't take a chance on him. He took a chance on them. It says in the article he walked on to the GSU football team.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound edge rusher initially joined the Georgia State program as a walk on during the 2017 season. He ranked as the No. 2,907 overall prospect in the 2017 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

actually he's been on scholarship for awhile long before as a young kid with raw potential. It's not right to say our staff didnt take a chance on him.

you'd have a point if we gave him the scholarship AFTER having the year like he did.

The point is he walked through the doors without a scholarship. They said prove yourself and we will give you a scholarship. There wasn't any risk on their part.

Sure there is always risk. That's one precious scholarship spot we took away from someone else to develop last few years.

Wouldn't you say being the nation's sack leader is a great return on your investment?

This happened before the portal; just easier to figure out who is transferring now.

Why should the player not have the opportunity to go somewhere else? Coaches sure can.

With the amount of school resources and time invested in him for last 3 years, it's not unreasonable to expect a return product for more than one season.

I think the main dilemma here is that USC reached out to a player of another institution before declaring for the portal.

If Strachan declared for the portal, and then P5 schools went all out bids for him after the fact, then we all would wish him luck at the next level of course. Heck, I still do, but it certainly raises a question of, where do you draw the line?

RE: Nation's sack leader Jordan Strachan enters transfer portal
I wish it could be understood to high school recruits that if you play at a G5 school you can still be noticed by NFL scouts and that you don't need to transfer up to achieve that dream. Sure the P5 schools have more eyes on them but there have been amazing NFL talent that has come through the lower leagues.

I fear the transfer portal could become a double edged sword for the G5, I'm just not sure which side will be sharper. Great G5 players moving up and leaving their team, OR, P5 players who are not given a chance come to G5 and show what their potential was.

I'm also nervous with the expanding legislation over NIL if that creates a wider divide between P5 & G5 or if it might soften the gap but I support student athletes ability to receive some compensation.

I think that over the years it has been proven, if you can play, the NFL will find you! Regardless of where you play.

That is not a good look for Elliot.

He loved App but turned down the HC job to shoot for the SC job before Satt got it (I appreciate he did that)

He did what was best for him, same as this young man.

Nation's sack leader Jordan Strachan enters transfer portal
It's very puzzling. We have four players playing in the NFL playoffs. We have sent players to the NFL Combine and the Senior Bowl. You're going to gef a bunch of scouts at our pro day if for no other reason than GT, UGA and GSU tend to schedule their pro days around the same time. It just seems there is more than meets the eye around this move. But oh well, next man up.

This is not good for any of us and as someone has already says, it introduces the idea of G5 as a developmental minor league for the P5. I get it that hey if coaches can look out for themselves and move so should players be able to. It's leaving a bad taste because of the rumors of tampering (hopefully not true) and because we aren't talking about a graduate transfer or a kid moving home because of a family issue.

On another note it opens up the possibility we face him the first game of 2022. Interesting.

On another 'nother note I wonder if the tampering is the if CSE's love for all things Maroon starts waning. Asking for a friend.
