Disagree. Students are not on campus and the band will not be available in early august. Besides, I'd rather sit in a 40 degree stadium than a 90 degree sweatbox.

I understand your point, 'Nickle, but some colleges are ALREADY in school.
The question for the MAC, is if some schools already in session want to start the last Saturday of August, should they be permitted? Caveat: Only OOC games.
Just for hell, I'll look up start dates for various MAC schools.

RE: 2021 Schedule
EMU should consider starting the Fall semester earlier and then ending by Thanksgiving. This is the old '70s energy savings schedule.

Free tickets for teachers: https://emueagles.com/news/2021/8/25/foo...night.aspx
Quote:EMU's season-opener, set for Sept. 3 against Saint Francis University, will be celebrated as CommUniversitE Night. Presented by EMU's proud corporate partner, DTE Energy, CommUniversitE Night is a family-centric event that will showcase and celebrate the people who make our university and community a special place to live, work, and learn!
Prior to kickoff, fans can enjoy a free petting zoo and carnival games, interact with EMU student-athletes and coaches, and pick up coupons from local business partners. The action continues when Eastern Football kicks off its 130th season of play at 7 p.m against the Red Flash.
Additionally, as a thank you to educators for their dedication to students of all ages, EMU Athletics is offering all local teachers and staff up to four complimentary tickets to the home opener. A fundraising opportunity also exists to benefit your local schools. To set up a ticket sales fundraising opportunity, please email Ricky Zum Mallen in Athletics Marketing.
A portion of all ticket proceeds from CommUniversitE Night will be donated to support area schools. The EMU Ticket Office has announced the sale of 2021 ticket packages and single-game ticket options. EMU's schedule features six home games. Visit the official ticketing page at EMUEagles.com for more information.

And I wonder if back in the 'good ole days' that a lot of students worked summers and starting later was consistent with that.
For example, factory workers took their vacations during summer and college students were brought in to fill the worker gap.
As far as A/C vs. heat. I can not speak in terms of CRE (commercial real estate). All I know is that my house, electric with a heat pump, is OBVIOUSLY much, much cheaper in summer than winter as running the heat pump and not aux. eletric heat is cheap. If only Michigan winters were not a cold.

Its more about start-up and shutdown. A break from Late Nov to Early Jan allows facilities to maintain a constant low temp. Currently, things get ramped down for Tday, then up for finals, then down for Xmas, then back up again for the new semester.
Also, allows EMU to offer 'J-term' short courses. Think short travel classes to fun places (Florida, up North)
Lastly, students may be able to get the jump on seasonal employment--like the extra delivery people at FedEx and UPS.

RE: 2021 Schedule
Dear Friends,
What is the logic for starting classes so soon? When I attended Eastern, we did not start classes until the middle of September. The first semester went until the end of January. Second semester was February until the middle of June. Things seemed fine in those days. (I know that's when dinosaurs roamed on campus)

I'm with you guys 100%. Two things unfortunately changed that.
One, Ohio State had a nearly two month break between its last regular season game and the BCS Championship game in 2007. They came out flat and got creamed by Florida. The next year the B1G moved the season back a week.
Two, the MAC whored it up and signed the MACTION TV deal with ESPN for night games in November. I personally HATE them and nobody with a modicum of intelligence would deny that they decimate game attendance. That said, Urban Meyer claims that when he coached Utah, those midweek games were a boon to recruiting due to the national exposure.

Jerry, you are absolutely right about the calendar.
The idea of 12 games, championship games, etc. is to stretch the calendar so that teams playing in bowl games (and that is about 50% of the FBS teams) play play LATE into November and those who have Jan 1 games or CFP games that they'll have a championship game in early December.
Yes, Jerry, playing the 11th game in mid-November and then again in JANUARY is kind of crazy...

RE: 2021 Schedule
Just in case this is in effect for Sept 18th, there is no game day parking sales for the Boston College game, but a major hike for satellite free parking. Those lots are for Basketball and Hockey games at the Mullins Center. Over a mile away, yikes!
So if you are making the game, please buy your parking pass in advance.

Ohio is off to a brutal start, including a home loss to Duquene. Nice to have them on the EMU schedule this year.
