RE: Cusa sucks
I love it when people think message board fans really have a say in what goes on in a conference . There's not a damn person posting on this sports message board that has a clue what their school would or wouldnt do as far as membership. Well I can think of 2 people max that might and that's still a big might have a clue.

As far as S. Miss goes its been one of my biggest disappointment as a Western fan since Western joined CUSA. Hell I dont think they beat Western in anything other than baseball. Most games (BB & FB) haven't even been competitive. Then as a fan I looked forward to seeing their fan support in person and S. Miss is sitting at 5-1 and tied with Tech at the top of the west.....

They are playing Western in late Nov on a Saturday with sunshine and low 60s and there's not 10,000(probably closer to 7k) in the stands. As a former SBC school, S. Miss has been the biggest disappointment for me.

The biggest surprise is the fast growing rivalry with Marshall in FB & BB and it will soon (it has for me) over take Western's rivalry with Middle

I don't think so. She's selling a hot bag of steaming turds, and no one is interested in buying it. CUSA sucks because there's no money to hire proven coaches. CUSA sucks because there is a massive cultural and geographic divide between the Eastern and western schools. We can't stand associating with one another. This conference sucks because it is full of FCS programs who should have never been given the opportunity to play with the rest of us. It doesn't get any worse than CUSA. We all hate one another, and it's not because we're rivals. It's resentment. May this conference die off as soon as possible, and be erased from history forever. It never happened.

I disagree with that first part. I know for a fact that conference officials are watching this board. They wouldn't be doing their jobs if they weren't. They know exactly how much contempt we all have for this mess, but they're powerless to do anything about it. Outside of Rice, which refuses to spend money on athletics, this conference's membership is flat broke. Nothing will fix this disaster.

I dont know if anyone with the power to make that decision reads message boards like this one. I personally dont think they do. But I still stand by what I said that its plain silly to ask other fans if their conference would invite so and so.

Well, no. None of us are privy to that kind of information.

I never thought I'd see the day that the Sunbelt was a more desirable commodity than CUSA, but here we are.

The Sunbelt is really a better choice, we are both underfunded conferences with underfunded members.

What the problem is, for both of us, is geography. The two need to get together and rearrange members based on location and also work through some scheduling and marketing agreements. It would be beneficial to all the schools to make this happen. It would reduce costs, help build some regional rivalries, and be more fan friendly for travel.

Agreed. And that is all that UL’s AD, Dr Maggard, had suggested only to have the childish and idiotic response from the LTU AD and admin. Football is only a small part of the puzzle the real issue is all the travel for all the other sports. Not feasible.

I sincerely doubt that any CUSA school administration would support a move to the SunBelt. Look at academics, total sports programs, resources, etc.

Also the 2 head to head bowls played matched an 8-3 App St vs 4-5 NT, 7-5 Ga So vs 5-4 La Tech

There is also the coronavirus effect that can't be overlooked. The Belt to their credit had little disruption because of cancelled games. Before anyone states that the virus affects everyone, yes; but not the same. NT played without about a third of their starters out, I looked and didn't find any App St starters out. I think La Tech had several opt out the whole season.

Regional conferences are another topic. It does not appear that anything is being done to accomplish this goal.

App was missing WR1, RB2, TE1, LT1, NT1, and NT2 left with an injury in the second.

Everyone lost players throughout the year.

The Sunbelt needs to make decisions based on 2 and only 2 factors. Does it markedly improve football and finances? There is no point in adding a program just down the street if it doesn’t make football better. Any program would have to actively make the conference more money.

Brand power from the 1990s is worth bupkis.

Add Marshall in the East and USM in the West. When ULM eventually taps out of FBS add La Tech as their replacement.

I'd say add Marshall in the East and UAB in the West. If Texas State and/or ULM ever leave, Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss should be the next two called to replace them. At that point, you would have the following:

East

Marshall
App
Coastal
GS
GSU
Troy

West

USA
UAB
USM
UL
LT
StAte

Currently in FB and MBB, my university has zero standing to complain about CUSA. MT has been awful in both sports for the last couple of years. 03-puke But, Does the Sun Belt even play basketball? 03-lmfao With exception of Ga. State, since Western and Middle left the Sun Belt I'd say the Sun Belt sucks in BB as well.

There is reason why Sunbelt fans flood this board.

Horrible academics, terrible basketball and basketball attendance, pitiful bowl tie-ins, all in with a horrible ESPN contract, Tuesday and Wednesday night games and saturday games on ESPN 3 /+

Yes their football has gotten better but that doesn’t replace 25 years of being the cellar conference and the other pitiful attributes.

It took the worst Tech football team in recent history for the Sunbelt to finally get their first win against Tech.

The SB will never pull any teams from CUSA. I would prefer to be in the SB but that will only happen with a "merger/re-shuffle" of sorts due to tv money increase which also is not going to happen. You want to get crazy. Form the Playoff Alliance and merge the SB, MAC, CUSA and MW. Have an 8 team playoff for G5 Champion at year end. It's the only way to make some money since everyone wants to watch a playoff and the AAC can just chase their P6 fantasy.
