Do you believe KENPOM ...
KENPOM shows MAC teams are mostly ranked between 107-188, with two teams mid 250-ish and one near 300.
Not sure I buy UT as the best the MAC has to offer, although little doubt NIU is the worst. Here are the numbers. Which team or teams do you expect to move up or down.
107- Toledo
108- Ohio
130-Ball State
134-Buffalo
142-Kent
144-Akron
166-Bowling Green
171-Eastern Michigan
188- Miami
236 CMU
258-WMU
297-NIU
(OSU, 21; Xavier, 50; Cincy, 61 and Dayton 65).

I'd like to think BG is better than 166, but after seeing them be annihilated by Wright St today, I'm not so sure. Down by 33 at halftime and 38 shortly after halftime. Ended up losing by 18, had it down to 14 at one point but the game was never in doubt.

Yeah, embarrassing. I’m marking it down as the worst possible matchup with their big men, along with BG unable to get anything to fall. Just one of those games. But man, they looked like trash. After the game, can’t really argue with the KenPom ranking for BG.

On the other hand, UB isn’t 30 spots better than BG, if they are better at all.

Toledo is good when they shoot well. Any team with a decent post should handle us. I'd say there is less of a top than usual and that 8 legit teams can win the conference. The bottom few may be pretty bad.

Right now I'd lean to Ohio because of their overall depth and quality post play, and would not sleep Ball State, especially if they get their two injured guys back. Akron has only played one game so still ??? there. Then, as you said, the rest can go into one pot.
For one, not surprised BG struggled vs. a team with a quality post player. But how many of those are in the MAC ... OU has one, Western has a young one ... after that ??? So I guess BG should still be in the quality mix as well.

OK ... Toledo makes me take it all back!!! Big win at Marshall (Kenpom No. 76) could/should lift UT inside the Top 100. I stand corrected.
BTW... Transfer from D2 Walsh was a big plus. Curious how he became eligible before the game??? ... NCAA cleared all D1 transfers as immediately eligible Wednesday ... But not D2s. Rockets must be living right.

Toledo has as athletic of a team they've had in years. They didn't play well to end regulation, but finally preseason all MAC guard stepped up and added 14 in OT. The Walsh transfer Shumate came up big as well adding boards and points. The fact still remains that if you have an inside presence you should beat us. Maybe Toledo will play more than 6 guys and fend off interior strength with depth. Time will tell.

I think this is the last year on Montgomery's contract extension. I imagine he won't be brought back but our athletic director seems to do whatever he wants regardless of performance or the fans.

As I read the following new transfer eligibility rule below, Shumate is eligible based on Walsh University being a "4-Year Institution" that plays in Division II:
These waivers will only be handed out to players who were sitting after transferring for the first time from a four-year institution, and only those who were enrolled full-time in the fall semester of 2020 would qualify. It will ostensibly serve as a blanket waiver to provide flexibility for players and teams in the midst of the pandemic.

The waiver process was a joke. Guys playing for their 3rd or 4th school we’re getting waivers. Guys who had academic issues got waivers. The only players not getting waivers we’re essentially low to mid major guys who didn’t lie on their request. Shumate was a Dean’s list student. He was essentially denied because he told the truth on his waiver request that he was coming to Toledo for broader academic and athletic opportunities and didn’t make something up about some problem at his old school or phony family situation. As far as how that helps Toledo, he is not a true post player but with starting center AJ Edu out with a meniscus injury he gives them a versatile forward that fits into their small ball lineup and gives them better depth
