RE: #ProDukes
To add to that, saying that Ben probably won't see another snap in the NFL isn't a knock on the guy. There are 32 starting QBs in the NFL and most carry an additional two on the active roster. So even considering injuries, there's maybe 100 QBs that see snaps in a full season (including preseason). Last year, from what I could find, 73 QBs saw at least one snap in the regular season. The best QBs have a span of (usually) 10 years - though obviously some go double that or more. Saying that Ben won't see another snap in the NFL is saying that he's not one of the best 75-100 QBs to make it to the NFL in the past DECADE. If you took the best 200 NFL analysts and had them make a list of the top 100 QBs that entered in the NFL in the past decade, I'd wager that not a single one would list Ben. Again, that's not a knock on him. Ben was a fantastic FCS QB, would have been a very good FBS QB, and is a decent NFL QB...but decent QBs don't make it in the NFL. Even good QBs don't last in the NFL. All it takes for someone outside that top echelon is one bad game. Being drafted so low, not making the combine, not having preseason snaps, etc. doesn't help.
Of the current starting QBs, the ones drafted outside the top 40 are:
Brandon Allen for the Bengals (201/2016, starting because of injury)
Mike Glennon (73/2013...again...injury)
Ryan FitzMagic (250/2005, an anomaly and still can't keep a starting job)
Kirk Cousins (102/2012, this is the one example you could probably point to as an actual NFL starting QB, but he was still multiple rounds higher than Ben)
Taysom Hill (undrafted/2017, usually just a gadget QB, currently an injury starter)
Nick Mullens (undrafted/2017, injury starter)
Russell Wilson (75/2012)
Brady (199/2000)
Wilson and Brady are the only QBs that began the season as a starter and were not drafted in the top 40. Even with all the injuries to starting QBs currently, there's only 6 others that are now starting...and all of them have been in the league for a few years - which, YES, makes a HUGE difference. Being able to get into preseason or garbage time games multiple times before starting is CRUCIAL. Even just having a couple seasons on the practice squad going against NFL players is invaluable.
Looking at the facts and history, it's hard to imagine him seeing another snap. And I'm not saying he's not worthy of being a backup, it's just very unlikely. Having the game he had with the press and online commentary that followed makes it near impossible to stick around enough to see another snap in a real game. Being an unknown player to everyone but us means he really had to wow people in his first game...and he did not. If the refs had called the player down on that scoop and score, who knows what happens, but given the way things played out, I'd be (happily) shocked to see him get more game time.
