I assume the NCAA will punish Alabama (State) now after Saban's admission of tampering?

He's been at JMU 4 years now and has been primarily relegated to special teams duty. Glad he got his diploma, good luck to him wherever he lands.

Portal only closed for entering. Players can still sign somewhere

The April 30th date for underclassmen and May 1st date for Grad Transfers is the window to enter the portal. They don't have to sign by those dates.

Seth's hair made him my son's favorite player. He would always spend a few minutes chatting when we caught the team at Hotel Madison and my son got more excited to see Seth than any character we saw at Disney. It's a bummer he is moving on but he had a huge part in my son's introduction to JMU fanhood. There is something special about seeing your kids get excited about something you has loved for so long, and because of that Seth is part of a few JMU moments I'll remember forever.

Portal is closed but guys will still be signing in July and even August as many teams have 10+ spots available going into summer. Biggest names will most likely sign in next few weeks, but teams will have needs to fill all the way until camp.

Wonder how many players Cig would have been able to retain if he had stayed. Certainly he would have retained some. I would guess about 50%.

G5 is certainly more of a minor league than it was.

Can’t really argue with that. The big boys always played with a loaded deck but now they get to reshuffle the deck after each season.

I've been thinking about that the last few days. It seems like JMU moved up just in time for G5 to be relegated to almost the same spot that FCS was in relation to FBS. This new landscape means that any recruit that actually does anything is gone the next year. G5 teams are nothing but 1-year stepping stones. You might get lucky one year and have a great team (like JMU basketball this season) but it's just not going to be sustainable. This goes for players AND coaches.

There is simply no way for a G5 team to out-recruit and be a powerhouse a-la UCF and Boise State.

It also makes me kind of mad that JMU cares and puts alot of effort into athletics, but some of these legacy P5 teams never seem to do anything in the two revenue sports. Rutgers, Illinois, Vandy, etc, etc. The next shakeup SHOULD be relegating some of these legacy P5's. Shape up or ship out.

I think football and basketball are two different animals with respect to the portal.

I think we are going to be very successful in the portal in basketball as there are so many good players in the portal and from lower levels that there will be plenty of very good players that will come to JMU with little to no NIL. In regards to rest of the SBC JMU is in the best position to dominate the league in basketball based on everything else we have to offer (AUBC, facilities, etc.) We have a very good chance to really get things going in basketball over next few years and I think we will.

As far as football that is a different animal and it will be tougher to retain and recruit great players without more NIL. That said there are still many good players that don't care all that much about NIL at least at the level they would be paid at. I think in SBC we will remain at top of conference, but at the national level it will be tough but it has always been tough.

Heard from a good source that pretty much for all SEC teams the starting players all earn at least 100k a year. We will never be able to compete with that.

As far as moving up and things changing that is why we moved. If we did not we would be in even worse position. It is also why UD moved to CUSA. We need to keep wining and being successful and we will be alright.

You can long for days of rooting for same guys for 4 years, but it aint coming back so might as well accept it.

Better question is how happy he would be if one school raided his roster/recruots like he just did JMU? He wasn't very happy about all things portal, so it's ironic to see him take the Kings of the East to battle the big boys in the Big100.

Also, it's ironic that NIL was intended to let a kid earn a couple bucks off their name, image and/or likeness and profit off their jerseys being sold by the schools. With NIL being what it is, nobody will be buying the overpriced jersey with the players name on it because they know they'll be gone at the end of the season. These simple t-shirts that cost $40+ because they have the athletes name on them only seem to be bought up by their families.

It's almost like we are amateur or non-scholarship compared to the G5s. The divide has grown.

Quote:Now the 11th former JMU player to join Cignetti at Indiana, Tucker has three seasons of eligibility remaining. He’ll join former JMU defensive linemen James Carpenter and Mikail Kamara, who are also with the Hoosiers.

Several James Madison assistant coaches also joined Cignetti at Indiana.

Tucker hails from Norfolk, Va. where he attended Life Christian Academy.

Could you imagine if we looked in a crystal ball early last November and saw this? 03-hissyfit03-lmfao03-weeping
