Instead, the SEC has smartly released its Health and Safety Guidelines for football attendance, and they rely on the sound principle that schools can individually determine fan attendance based on local conditions, which makes sense since the virus is not having the same impact in all places. Of course, the schools have to comply with any Governor's or other health officials orders about event attendance. Beyond that, there are many protocols for wearing masks, disinfection procedures, and social distancing, so quite the opposite of "continuing as if everything is normal":

Major League Baseball said no fans in 2020. Several NFL teams also said no fans this year. No one said that was rigid.

"Several" NFL teams? That means the NFL is allowing each team to decide based on their local conditions - exactly what the SEC is doing.

For their first home in New Orleans, the Saints said they will have no fans. That could easily change for the other 7 home games but we'll just have to wait and see. An empty stadium when Tom Brady and the Bucs are in town.

Atlanta Falcons? No fans for their two September home games. TBD for the rest of the season.

And the Tennessee Titans? No fans for their home opener either. TBD for the rest of their season.

Three NFL teams in SEC country, 4 games to be played in an empty stadium. Just saying if the mighty NFL can do it down south, so too can the SEC.

Lots of linkages and verbiage to re-confirm that the NFL has left it up to the teams to decide on fan policy, just like the SEC.

Then there is Major League Baseball. No attendance anywhere.
