Multiple trick plays, multiple turnovers, a hook and lateral TD, a pick six, a punt return TD, starting QB knocked out, a blocked extra point returned for 2, a game ending pick in the endzone. This game had it all.
Hasn't everybody beaten Notre Dame in South Bend before?
This game did give birth to a somewhat popular meme, too...
Sadly, it was also the last time Skip Holtz did anything redeeming as USF's coach.
USFFan
Not lately.
ND went 7-0 at home last year, 6-0 in 2018 and 6-1 in 2017 (the lone loss was to Georgia in the season's second game, by one point).
So, ND is 19-1 at home the last three seasons, including an 18 game home winning streak.
Name the last big bowl ND won. Win a big bowl and get back to us. It's been 30+ years.
The 1 loss shouldnt count as a home game. It was Athens north for a day. They took your home and owned it.
Sad. Lol. Frightened Irish.

In 1999 ECU went 5-0 OOC by defeating WVU, Duke, South Carolina, #9 Miami, & NCSU. This is the opening game between ECU & WVU in Charlotte, NC at Bank of America Stadium (Carolina Panthers) in a matchup billed as the AXA East/West Showdown w/ future NFL pro bowl QBs (David Garrard & Marc Bulger). A great game that comes down to the wire.

ECU @ #12 Miami in 1996. Anytime you can wax Miami in the Orange Bowl 31-6 it's a good day. After going down 6-0 early, ECU reels off 31 unanswered to embarrass the U in their glory days.

I would love to see ECU get back to that level. I think most AAC fans feel the same.
Gotta put the 1992 Peach Bowl up here as well, with #12 ECU overcoming a 17-pt deficit in the final 8 minutes to defeat hated rival #21 NCSU to earn their 1st & only top 10 finish in school history before a record crowd in ATL. I remember being an 12-yr old kid making the trek all the way to Atlanta with my fam for this one. My stepbrother was a huge State fan & he sat on the opposite side of the stadium. We had a fist fight over this one. When we were down 17, I remember thinking the ride home was gonna suck but then a miracle happened to cap off the dream season. I thought ECU was gonna be one of the best teams for years to come after that. ECU could have been in contention for the Nat'l title that year but for a bogus call by B1G officials @ Illinois in the opening game of the season and only loss.
Just skip to the 50:01 mark if you just want to see the furious comeback victory. Some cool retro news footage afterwards as well. Btw, please post if anyone has footage of ECU's road win over #11 Syracuse that same season (1991) or the one point thriller between #20 ECU vs #23 Pitt in Greenville.

I think we have the right coach for the job but in the 90s ECU was actually one of the best programs on the east coast for that moment in time. We've had glimpses here and there but that remains our high water mark to date. Even though we've struggled in this conference thus far I believe there are brighter days ahead and I'm happy to be here. Hopefully, here soon we will make all of you guys proud. Next year ECU should be a real contender.
One of my favorites... Virginia Tech had just stunned the football world the week prior by upsetting Ohio State in Columbus. They may have overlooked us, but we had Shane Carden, Justin Hardy, and Zay Jones.
Another favorite, also against the Hokies. 2008, in Charlotte... GREAT crowd. Blocked punt returned for the TD to win it.
2008 C-USA Championship game... Pirates beat Tulsa on the road for the title.
2009 C-USA Championship game... Pirates beat Houston (Keenum & Sumlin) in Greenville for back to back conference titles.

And yet...USM 39 ECU 22 that year...man oh man I wish for both of us to get back to that level. We just got a 4* transfer QB from WVU so maybe that is a start.
I wouldn’t even know where to start. There are so many classic ECU games.
One that comes to mind though is the ECU at Florida State game in 1983 where the Pirates lost 47-46. The players ran out on the field and spooked their horse Renegade during the pregame to try and keep them from throwing the spear down. The Pirates had a chance to win, driving down the field late in the game and lost the ball on a very questionable fumble call.
But since this year is the 50th anniversary game against Marshall and the tragic plane crash, I will post this to pay homage to them. And hopefully, the game is played this year and it becomes a classic.

2016 Navy vs ND. Navy plays the perfect game on offense. No turnovers. 1 penalty (delay of game). Holds ND to 6 offensive possessions. Navy consumes the last 7:30 of the game, refusing to give the ball back. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnatio...ons-drives

How is 2009 ND not on there. I mean, ending a 43 year losing streak has got to count for something, and in triple overtime no less. I will always hate Charlie Weiss for that first loss to Navy after so many decades. Granted, that was an abysmal ND program at the time.

2007.
All right, now that I'm here...good list 98, but our Hurricane friend is right. 16 was sweet but 07 was historic. Many will always remember where they were. Heck '10 was more of a romp than 16.
1963 A-N was also Stichweh Staubach and an unbelievable ending.
When was A-N #1 vs #2? '46 maybe? One of the first "Game of the Century"
However, gotta shout out A-N '89 for Griz (RIP), Frank, et al. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n4RfYsvyGeE&t=7s
Ummm, 54-55 Sugar Bowl and the Team Named Desire?
'04 Air Force on a Thursday night was cool - second of seven CiCs.
But I have been in NMCMS for three times the Brigade stormed the field. AF 17, AF19, and the Houston game in 16.
My firsties were around for the predecessor to that Houston game: beating #2 South Carolina in '84.
Modern bowls, agreed that 14:30 drive in the Emerald Bowl is a thing for the ages...but maybe 2009 Houston Bowl drubbing of BigXII Mizzou?
