The Southland may not last very long
(this has implications for the B12 and SEC)

Report that the ASUN will announce postponement on Friday. When ASUN and OVC make it official, then it will only be the Missouri Valley outside FBS. After postponing football, they seem to have forgotten they still have sports that haven't been postponed!

Missouri Valley football (MVFC) already postponed until Spring, but allows it's members to play any revenue games they want. I think there are 1 or 2 such games scheduled.

Here is the entire FCS schedule, since all conference play in the fall is cancelled. All are revenue games. I am not certain all the G5 games are really on (e.g., UNA at BYU in November with nothing else schedule seems unlikely), but I put them up here. A few schools have multiple games. I put postponed games at the bottom, they were slated for early September -- these are also likely cancelled.
09/03
Murray State (OVC) at Georgia State
09/05
Houston Baptist (SLC) at North Texas
09/12
Missouri State (MVFC) at Oklahoma
Eastern Kentucky (OVC) at West Virginia
Tennessee Tech (OVC) at Texas Christian
Houston Baptist (SLC) at Texas Tech
Campbell (Big South) at Georgia Southern
09/19
Samford (SoCon) at Florida State
Austin Peay (OVC) at Cincinnati (new date)
Tennessee Tech (OVC) at Southern Miss
Houston Baptist (SLC) at Louisiana Tech
Central Arkansas (SLC) at Arkansas State
Duquesne (Pioneer) at Coastal Carolina // not sure this is still on
09/26
Lamar (SLC) at Rice
Campbell (Big South) at Appalachian State
11/21
North Alabama (Big South) at BYU
No Date (postponed)
Jacksonville State (OVC) at FIU

Are there any FBS games Aug 29, or have all of those been pushed back?

RE: FCS MEAC joining IVY,Patriot cancelling all fall sports CAA for football as well
Everything in P5 appears pushed back. I see only one on 9/5. The B12 basically plans to play OOC on 9/12 and start conference play on 9/26 (two schools have no OOC opponent). The SEC set no dates, but late September seems to be the plan (9/26). the ACC is a mess of a schedule, the OOC games weaved in, some early September conference games -- and they are the one with some major testing problems.
Of the three the ACC (lack of) plan looks the most likely to collapse. (Note 6 of the 15 ACC schools lack an OOC opponent due to cancellations, 3 of those that do are facing Liberty, 2 Charlotte).
I think the Playoff is dead because the B1G and P12 will deep 6 it. I also think Trump will lose the election pretty badly, and that will take the political pressure off the Southern and Plains States conferences to continue, and the medical people will then hold sway.
What the remaining G5 does is anyone's guess. It would be tempting to let all the revenue games scheduled get in before 9/20 and then shut down. The games against other G5, including the American, look like all "in kind" home and home games. The only real revenue games appear to be these in September. Liberty "bought" it's schedule, and again with Presidential support. September 19 as a stop date would work, except Charlotte would lose one money game.
09/10 UAB (CUSA) at Miami
09/12 WKU (CUSA) at Louisville
09/12 Louisiana (SBC) at Iowa State
09/12 Arkansas State (SBC) at Kansas State
09/12 Texas-El Paso (CUSA) at Texas
09/12 Tulsa (AAC) at Oklahoma State
09/19 UCF (AAC) at Georgia Tech
09/19 Charlotte (CUSA) at North Carolina
----------------------------------------
10/17 Liberty (Indy) at Syracuse
10/31 Charlotte (CUSA) at Duke
10/07 Liberty (Indy) at Virginia Tech
11/21 Liberty (Indy) at NC State

Big 10 and Pac 12 don't control ESPN. Playoff is on if the season progresses. They have no real say.
Presidential politics has nothing to do with these decisions. The governors have influence. But mostly its ESPN and its TV$ driving the urge to play. And a lesser factor is keeping students happy. The online classes will soon start eating into their dorm revenue and will result in lost students to community colleges.

ASUN makes it official. Apparently the OVC had a meeting last night and didn't reach a conclusion. They are meeting again this afternoon. Don't know why it is hard for them with all the rest of FCS gone and NCAA fall championships cancelled. When the two Valleys cancel, it will be only the 6 FBS conferences left.

There are talking heads at ESPN saying we should not have any sports right now. The story is this virus. ESPN already had some of their employees came down with this virus, and they would say lets not have playoffs or bowls this season. It is Fox Sports that are pushing the Big 12 to play. ACC and SEC are looking at both ways right now.

The talking heads at ESPN have as much influence on their executive suite as I do.

Each school seems to be doing its own thing. The Citadel wants to play full ooc in fall.
“"...We would like to play four games if we are allowed to,” Capaccio said. “We don’t have those four figured out yet.”
The Bulldogs were scheduled to play Clemson on Nov. 14, but the revised ACC schedule has Sept. 19 as the slot for a non-conference game for the Tigers. The game is worth a $450,000 payout for The Citadel, which lost its game with Charleston Southern when CSU announced Friday it would not play fall football.
As of Friday, there were about 29 FCS teams out of 127 still hoping to play fall football. All 13 FCS leagues have postponed their fall football seasons, with the Ohio Valley Conference deciding Friday to allow teams to play four games in the fall and a seven-game conference slate in the spring.
There are plenty of hurdles for The Citadel to clear before playing fall football, including COVID-19 testing, finding opponents and navigating NCAA guidelines on split seasons and number of games allowed in a calendar year...."

NDSU has given up on trying to find opponents. Word was that FBS teams were not interested in playing us or were seriously low-balling us. I assume something similar was happening with potential FCS opponents. That leaves Missouri State as the only MVFC school with a game scheduled. The MSU AD just said on local sports radio that he hopes to have two more games scheduled within the next 48 hours. We'll see if that pans out.
