It's going to be slow for me at work the next few days so I decided to take a stab at putting this together. The idea is to use the performance of each team from the CUSA & Sun Belt over the past 10 years to put together the best possible conference between the two. For Football I used ESPN's FPI from 2011 to 2020, for basketball I used KenPom over the same period, and then RPI was pulled from Warren Nolan from 2010 to 2019. Then I took the median of the results and ranked them all.

Once I had compiled everything I added a weight to it so that the focus would be on football (3/6), then basketball (2/6) and have a little emphasis on baseball (1/6). The schools are listed in order of their rankings based on this idea.

1) La Tech
2) Louisiana
3) Marshall
4) Middle
5) So Miss
6) WKU
7) Ark State
8) Ga Southern
9) UAB
10) App State
11) Rice
12) FAU

13) UT Arlington
14) ODU

This 12 team conference would result in an average FPI of 87, an average KenPom of 179, and an average RPI of 103.

I thought a 12 team conference would work the cleanest, but then I saw how highly UTA finished and wanted to work on a configuration to ensure that they were included. So if this conference is opened up to non-football then you add UTA and then ODU I guess to balance it out.

I know it’s hard to you to believe anything bad could happen to any team but La Tech, but UAB also had a backup QB in that game, and we did find a way to win the game.

Yeah I think any reasonable person would agree the suspension of CUSA Player of the Year (5th year senior) and New England Patriots player was biggest lost of the year for any team.

The fact that Tech had chance to beat UAB with a freshman QB with 1 game experience lets me that Tech would have crushed UAB with JMar.
